Breathing Technique?

Postby wolfen147 » Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:17 pm

Heya! So tonight is a cardio night, and lately I've been noticing I get out of breatha nd dry-mouthed after a couple intervals. Which isn't directly relevant to my question because I just thought of this today :P

Is there any sort of breathing technique you do when doing cardio and/or any sot of activity? Cause I'm really into Mixed Martial Arts (watching and studying, I can't find a good MMA gym to join anywhere!) and I know that they breathe out with every strike to keep from getting gassed(out of breath, dizzy) So I'm just curious :)

Thanks in advance!

Breathing is pretty much a natural thing that you should not have to think about. When lifting weights the general rule was Exhale on Exerction, but that was mostly just to make sure that you remembered to breath and did not hold your breath.

If you feel light headed or faint, then simply do a little less.

(And in Keene, forget about MMA, and try cross country skiing. Cross country skiing is the all-time champ for calorie burning.)

You may have heard of the old "breath in through the nose, out through the mouth" ...well forget all that!! You need to breath in and out as your body needs it, and if that means huffing and puffing the whole time, then that is fine! If you get a little dry-mouthed, then take a swig of water. If your breathing becomes to labored to handle, then just slow down, take a break. But don't try to "control" your breathing, just let it come naturally. :D
When I was running with my running group, there would be all sorts of "breathers". Some of us sounded like a freight train, some of us never made a sound, some of us sounded like you needed to call the paramedics! So don't worry too much about a technique...just whatever works best for you. :D

Move to Keene, NY and take up ice climbing. (You hate heights too!)

Move to Hawaii and take up surfing (You hate warm weather, beaches, babes in hot bikinis...)

Become a singer on a cruise ship. (Lots to hate in various harbors).

Because I'm a New Hampshire man. Life isn't life without snow and color-changing leaves :)

I did the snow thing once. I opened my door one day, and could see the imprint it left on the solid wall of snow. I called in a snow day and went back to bed.

Thats when I step back a few steps, and run straight into the wall of snow! Even if I'm still in my pajamas  COld weather is my domain. I walked across town in -16 degree weather with shorts and a t-shirt.
