Is it worth the deprivation?

Post by jared767 »

I read somewhere to cut the cheese on sandwiches to keep fit and healthy.
I'm building this 6" Sub sandwitch with the help of Subway Nutritionix Calculator and here's what I got:

9-Grain Wheat Bread
Turkey Breast
Pickles
Tomatoes
Onions
Cucumbers
Lettuce
Mustard yellow or deli brown

without cheese

Calories 276.5
Total Fat 3.0g
Saturated Fat 0.5g
Trans Fat 0.0g
Cholesterol 20.0mg
Sodium 1140.0mg
Total Carbohydrates 46.0g
Protein 17.0g

Same mix with cheese

Calories 336.5
Total Fat 8.0g
Saturated Fat 3.5g
Trans Fat 0.0g
Cholesterol 35.0
Sodium 1240.0mg
Total Carbohydrates 46.0g
Protein 21.0g

Do you think it's worth the deprivation?

Change the Cheese.

Use low fat no regular. It's got potentially more protein, but also less bad fat and more good fat.

So then you change the calories, not necessarily the amount, but you take something and make it more beneficial.

One other option to cheese would be a few slices of avocado. It is a healthy fat that is completely natural and unprocessed. I use it alot instead of sliced cheese. :D

well....with the avocado it adds only 10 calories and 2 fat grams - but you lose 2 grams of saturated fat (that's a +) there is a bit less cholesterol. 100 mg less sodium. So I think it is worth a try. I think the avocado adds more flavor to a sandwich than cheese. Subway doesn't offer a low fat cheese substitute. And the avocado they serve is basically guacamole - so i don't know exactly what's in it. I wish they just had avocado slices.
You could lose the pickles and replace with green bell pepper to lessen the sodium.Spinach leaves are have more nutrition than plain lettuce. Just a few suggestions. :D
