Is a Protein Drink Right for Me?

Postby AsWater » Wed Jun 27, 2007 5:28 pm

Hey guys and gals.

I was wondering if a protein drink like Muscle Milk or something would be good for me between meals. I'm looking to build some muscle and of course lower the body fat percentage. But to help you help me let me get some stats out of the way first...

Age: 20

Height: 5'7

Weight: 165-70

Body Fat Percentage: No Idea. I'm chubby though. I was a slim 140 in high school. So maybe that helps with the mental picture.

Economic Status: Poor. I have literally little to no food in my house. I live at home.

I work at a Men's Residential Program in Southern California. Since I don't have much money I eat breakfast and lunch here. They like to pack the portions so I usually eat half and eat the other half a few hours later bringing my average meal count to 4-5 meals a day. I also have a weight room here. I work out right after work.

I'm in no way a fitness expert or nutritional expert. The food they serve doesn't seem soo bad. They serve a lot of eggs though.

SO anyway, I was thinking the protein supplement and maybe a multivitamin would help me out a bit. Does what I'm saying make any sense?

Phew, long post I know. Enough finger workout. Off to the weight room. Thanks for advice in advance!

- what do you spend your money on? food needs to be a priority if your gonna be serious with this
- what's a residential prgoram??
- if chubby than bodyfat is to high obviously
- good idea to split meals, good boy
- eggs are good
- would be just as cheap to buy sdome bulk meat if possible, store in freezer, cook like a stir fry with veggies and take with you to work for an extra meal or two, you don't ever want to be hungry cause that usually means your fueling yourself on muscle which is the opposite of what you want to do
- i've read longer

Take stuff to work that requires almost little to no Prep. Things like low Fat Cheese. Low Fat Chicken and Turkey Slices, Fruit, Wheatbread Sandwiches, Yoghurts, Nuts, Seeds, etc etc

I'd say possibly don't eat the Eggs. Definitely not if they're cooked en mass, which will certainly be so if they're Scrambled, and no doubt will be packed full of Yolks. You can't be certain in that situation, exactly how much LDL Cholesterol you're eating, so avoid them for now.

Unless they are maybe Fried, Griddled etc etc individually, in which case one a day is okay.

@ swanso5

- As of now, my money gets split into rent, gas, fixing my piece of crap of a car, and another good chunk goes into trying to save money to get out of my mom's house. I'm moving in with my girlfriend. Since shes the money maker in the relationship I figured the faster I move out, the faster her and I can eat healthy. Thanks to shapefit we're trying to come up with a healthy menu for us.

-Its a half way house of sorts. A home where people with drug convictions come instead of jail. Or sometime they just come straight from jail. They live here and get rehabilitated, and learn how to manage their lives.

- By bulk meat, do you mean like beef from Costco or something?

@ boss man

As far the yogurts go... Do they have to be low or non fat? Are flavored ones with the fruits okay?

And as far as nuts go... They would have to be unsalted right?? Possibly roasted?

Excuse me, if my questions sound a bit stupid. You don't even know how little I know about food. My mom doesn't cook so I've lived off T.V. dinners and fast food my whole life.

Thanks for the advice guys. I get paid today so this weekend I'll probably buy yogurts, nuts, and other healthy in between meal snacks.
