What might be wrong with my muscle?

Postby MF_rogue » Tue Feb 21, 2012 3:03 pm

I have been working out pretty hard since before the summer and in different varieties as well and long story short - I pulled a muscle or something in my arm near shoulder. I can't really explain how it feels besides that I used to do 60 push-ups and now I barely get to 30, also I used to jump rope easily till 800 and more. Now my left hand gets "tired" at 200...
Should I go straight to physiotherapist or is there something I can do myself? It happened over 7 months ago so if it hasn't healed yet, it's a bad sign, I guess. Thought that working threw it would work, but no luck with that :D
So, any suggestions besides physio? getting to X-ray would take a while, maybe till then there's something I can do?

An X-ray would'nt identify a muscular problem, you'd need something like an MRI.

I'd see physio, as it seems like you might have pulled a muscle or a connective tissue.

If it's around the Shoulder it could be the Anterior Delt, Lateral Delt, Posterior Delt, Levator Scapulae, Subscapularis, Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, or one of the connecting tissues, possibly more than one of those things.

However it does sound more muscluar than anything else, os see a physio, but perhaps go to a GP or general Doctor first and be as fully detailed as possible and suggest whether you might need an MRI or another type of scan ot be on the safe side.

The Physio option might be suggested by the Doctor anyway.

I agree with Boss, a Physiologist appointment or an Athletic Therapist appointment would probably be the best.

The other option while you're waiting is to try rolling it - have you ever used a foam roller before? It helps with my shoulders a lot when I get a twinge that is restrictive or painful.

I'd suggest just going to a physio rather than trying some "home-made" cure and end up making it worse.
