In this country the Equal opportunities commission could clamp down on people discriminating against people for gender, sexuality, creed, levels of physical capability and doing so also in interview or selection processes, not just in a work situation.
Also it's not legal ot pay differing rates for the same job based on gender.
Bullying in the workplace can be tackled and unfair dismissal can go to tribunals. It's a lot better than it was 50 years ago, but even so, a few rogue employers can slip through the net.
It got bad in the manual skills sector a few years back, after people were discovered to be on secret blacklists. People in construction, standing up for another manual worker, being labelled a troublemaker, secretly put on a list and then struggling to get work, or being miscast as a wrong'n, added to a secret list and denied entry to similar work, because other similar employers could use these unethical lists, to weedle out potential employees at rectruitment stage.
That has now been stamped out, or supposedly anyway.
Some people will get away with harrassment too, because they're careful about their behaviour, with subtle little naughties here and there, that are hard to prove. Any male employers or colleagues, doing that to female staff deserve a slap, for being disgusting perverts, with a wandering hand and / or tongue disease.
