rules on how to pick the right exercises

Post by fatloss101 »

1) Exercies should work multiple muscle groups
2) Exercies should be done standing, whenever possible
3) The hardest exercies should be done first

Why number 2. You get very good workouts doing non-standing stuff like seated Shoulder Presses, Bench Pressing, Cable rows, Dumbell Rows etc.

If you're referring to activation of the core, than the point is quite valid, but enough standing work and a bit of direct stuff would cover that anyway I think, so some seated, incline or lying work would be fine.

1) I completely agree with this rule. Compound exercies smoke isolation exercises every time!
2) Ehhh.. Not true for everything. There are many great exercises done hanging (pull ups) and on the floor (push ups)
3)This one can vary, but I agree with this one as well.
Good guidelines, but could use a little more work.
