swimming lesson

Postby musculArgirl2 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 8:46 pm

i was bummed my swimming instructor called in sick tonight. the lady that replaced her was nice but she focused on the butterfly and backstroke very beginner type focusing. She had me practice breathing bubbles and stuff. i was rather bummed in the beginning. But i did like learning the butterfly. I think i'm so focused on the freestyle but the truth is i want to learn the other strokes too just as well and it was nice to focus on them too so i'm glad she did. She said my freestyle was pretty good. we had a new guy in the class. It was rather embarrassing trying to do the butterfly while this guy was watching. i felt umcomfortable. when someone does the buttefly you naturally look at their butt when it comes to the top or out of the water. i kept picturing this guy looking at my big butt. LOL oh well. my kick is so quiet compared to his. He was just pounding the water. tons of water was flying and waves. me you can hardly see my kick i don't think. LOL

It's pretty cool that you're learning butterfly, it's a tough one that involves a bit of coordination. I know what you mean about the dolphin kick, it's easy to feel "exposed"!

i do like trying different strokes since you use different muscles. the breast stroke i find really good for the inner thighs i think. Although i could be wrong maybe i'm doing it wrong for all i know. it was nice to try the butterfly. i never really had tried it before at all.

i think i'm going to start watching more you tube videos on the strokes so i can get better since i don't think i will continue with the swimming lessons once they are over. At least probably not for now. Maybe next spring i will start them again though. i still have 2 lessons left though. it is so much nicer when i'm the only student though.

stomach pain

Postby musculArgirl2 » Tue Sep 18, 2012 12:40 pm

i'm still have stomach pain. I'm going to the doctor soon. waiting for something on my insurance before i go. it goes away on it's own after a few hours but i took some tums today to see if it would go away sooner. i think it's correlated with food but i'm not sure.

i think i get it with fruits and veggies, chicken noodle soup, oatmeal. i'm off the soda and the metformin and it's still here! hopefully i will find out soon how i can stop it. :( :(

I notived the oikos Yoghurt in there. You are saying you have persistant stomach pain. Do you think it might be Lactose related? Have you been having one more more of the following every day?

Cheese, Yoghurt, Milk, Cream, Butter.

If you have one or more of those on a daily basis, cut them out, but if the stomach pain has persisted for some time now and those things don't always get factored into your daily eating shcedule, I'd say it's unlikely ot be any of tose causing the issue.

If you were lactose intolerant, you could try lactose free milk, or alternatively things like Soy Milk, almond milk, coconut milk, rice milk or oat milk, or try Kefir, by putting it in a bowl of milk and giving it 12-36 hours depnding on your preference.

Kefir dissolves the Lactose, so that should be okay and oftne kefir producers make too much and will send it to you free.

You could also try a digestive enzyme supplement and see if that helps, because if you are a dairy intolerant person, or have become one, an enzyme supplement, might negate the need to cut dairy.

The one thing might be to go on rxlist and look at the contraindications for pre-existing medications you're on, to make sure their mechanism of action won't be compromised, or they won't instigate side effects being combined with by an enzyme supplement.

thanks boss. I don't think i'm lactose intolerant. i do have dairy every day but i've always been a big dairy person and never had an issue. it seems to be with acidic foods i think?? Not sure really. Also i was drinking almond milk for a while remember and cut that out to see if it was causing an issue. it seems to be best when i cut out fruits and veggies. that sucks too. i can't eat tums the rest of my life. today i ate a lot of fruits and veggies and i had it stomach pains more than the last few days when i haven't. that would be my guess at least but i don't know if that is correct. :)

FYI it's not pain that i have all the time. Just for a couple hours at a time.

I find YouTube videos about swimming instruction really helpful - I followed a string of lessons for how to do flip-turns a while back. I never did do them with regularity, but the drills helped keep me straighter in the water on all of my attempts.

RE: the Lactose intolerance. it may be something that has started to happen, irrespective of how many years you have consumed dairy and if it has occured recently, it might be easy to overlook it, in favour of other explanations, like not taking the metformin anymore, or something like that.

All you would have to do is not consume dairy for about 3-4 days and assess any change in symptomology, relative to your intestinal discomfort. You might have to find one or more suitable alternatives to dairy, for those days, but if something as simple as abstinence for a few days, relieved your issues in part or in full, it would seem a fairly simple and prudent thing to do, because by experimenting with processes of elimination, regarding abstinence of a singular foodstuff, out of certain foods you may perceive to be causing the issue(s), you are encountering, if such elimination processes yield an answer, then that's a good thing.

If not, continue to eat as normal and presume it to be related to something else.

Dairy would be a good start, then if nothing changes, add it back in and do wheat or gluten and do things on that basis. It might seem a bit of a chop and change mentality, but as I say, the answer might be there if you try and even if it takes you 2-3 weeks, before eliminating something hypothetically turns out to be the answer, you'll be glad you did this, but if it's not the answer, you've lost nothing by trying :).

If you issues are food related, baulking something that may be the culprit, will hinder your chances of finding intestinal restitution on this matter.

I guess i could boss. But i don't know i'm not looking forward to doing that though. :? i don't think it's milk because i was drinking almond milk before and got pain still. I think it has something to do with fruits and vegetables. When i go a day or two without eating them i don't seem to have it at all. but it's hard to say because i had soup the other day and got it too.

first i'm going to cut out fruits and vegetables for a few days and see if i get it. then i will do milk. :)

talking to my one sister last night. she commented that she thinks if i don't lose weight in the next while i will be obese forever. She also thinks it's an excuse about my endocrinology disorder not helping with weight loss. And she is in the medical field for her job. :(

It kind of bugged me because i hardly ever talk to her. she is too busy with her life. She doesn't know about my efforts and that although my weight loss has been VERy slow it still is happening.

then she went on to comment that she thought i looked anorexic in my twenties when i use to run a lot.  older sisters are so much fun to have sometimes.

i know she meant well but i think it was rather judemental comments. it is frustrating though the slow weight loss i know that. :( VERY frustrating!! i'm getting really tired of struggling with this issue. people everywhere like to give me their advice on what i can do to lose weight. That gets old too.

I'm feeling really discouraged lately. I think because i just can't seem to lose much weight! i struggle with eating healthy. my own fault and it doesn't help my mom cooking. She has retired now too so she is cooking more than she use too. :( i don't have willpower at all!

i've never had such a hard time losing weight before. Granted i never had to lose this much either. when i was younger i would lose weight through cardio. rollerblading and running. and i would eat low fat and lose weight. it wasn't really a healthy diet though. i also really enjoyed running and rollerblading so i would do it a lot and that helped. but i only needed to lose 10 to 15 pounds. and i would do it.

now i can't seem to do it. I feel REALLY frustrated. :(

wow, no wonder you are discouraged! Not very nice or helpful of your sister to say that.
musculArgirl2 wrote:then she went on to comment that she thought i looked anorexic in my twenties when i use to run a lot.
Seems like she's just not happy with any body shape you have! Too big, too small....my advice is to not listen to her, brush off her comments. She doesn't live inside you, don't let her get in your head. She doesn't know what you are going thru or what you are doing to try to lose weight. Geez! it makes me mad when people say insensitive things - it can totally send a person into a depression or derailment of their diet/exercise program.
Don't let that happen. Use those feelings to fuel your willpower even more. Prove her wrong. Be vigilant in your eating and exercising - don't give up.

DO IT!!!! If I lived nearby I would come over and drag you out and say "lets go do this!!" 8) 8)
Shake it off girl, and keep doing the work - you will lose the weight.
