after how long running do you get them? the best way is to condition your self so keep running and eventually you shouldn't get them atleast not as bad

Be sure when you run that you maintain a good posture so that your diaphragm is able to get enough oxygen. Sometimes when a runner begins to tire the posture becomes more slumped and it compresses the diaphragm and restricts oxygen intake.
Make sure you are properly hydrated. "Side-stitches" can be one of the first signs of heat exhaustion.

Here is an article that might give you more detailed info, hope it helps :D

Dehydration is the first thing that I thought of too. But drinking during the run will not help if you are pre-dehydrated to start with. Are you taking any diuretics? Or eating lots of asparagus?

Also, as noted you need to watch your running form. Carry nothing in your hands when running. Keep your arms loose and free-swinging to keep your entire body in rhythm.

Keep a good form meaning head looking up, arms not crossing, and just stay loose. The best way I found to guarantee not getting cramps is strengthening your core. This is what works for me and it's helped me win two sectional championships and go to states for cross country.
