You're going to have to force him to admit certain things, in a reserved and calm manner, so he feels he has half a chance, to say what clearly needs saying, without feeling like he'll get his head bitten off.

It's the only way he can confront this kind of behaviour, because one little huffy aside, or a brief exchange from you, won't solve it, if the issue gets broached and then quickly brushed aside again, when you change the subject or leave the room.

I know you are capable of handling this situation, with the sensibility it deserves, but unless you do, the longer he fails to admit how he really feels and the more likely his procrastinations will make it harder and harder, until the only way would be to force him into it, and stop him using tired excuses and / or actions to avoid the issue

What you can be is extremely proud of everything you have been achieving, so don't you let anyone or anything put you off doing what you enjoy. Why should you be expected to start doing things, that will just hurt some of the physical improvement, you have worked hard for? It's your right in 30-40 years from now, to have a better qualtiy of life than many that age would. Nobody has that right to deny you a longer, more fulfilling life, because you being more inactive and less pro-active suits them better.

So GOOD LUCK with everything you're doing and may have to do in the coming weeks and months. You're a fantastic person and you deserve to feel like a person of very high worth, because that's what you are :).


You are completely correct BossMan. I will talk to him. I really do love him, (he does have lovable qualities), but I won't have him hold me back for his insecurities. It has already gone on long enough, at least long enough I felt I needed to get it off my chest on the internet, LOL. (sometimes the internet is better for the anonymity) I will be fabuous in 30 years I will not stop, no matter what. I couldn't even if I was told I had to, I am totally hooked. I worked really hard and will continue to work hard.

I am also going to tell him about this training program I have been looking at http://www.issaonline.com/certification ... ification/ to be a trainer. I know, right now, maybe it is just a dream, but dreaming is the first step to being what you want.

I had a great workout last night, well maybe not the best workout for me, but that the kickboxing workout I do on tuesday usually gets me working hard. I noticed that it has been easier and easier. Last night, I did the 2 minutes jump rope, not only with out a break, but I kicked it into high gear for the last 30 seconds! When I first started karate and kick boxing, I would get myself sick and everyone would ask if I was okay, because I looked so very green. There have been visits to the porcelain god during full contact class, but not for months now.

Today is a snow day for everyone. No school work for the kids. I figured if the school district had a day off, my kids could enjoy a day on the snow. That never lasts long. Every thing gets wet, they come in , get dry, go back out. There are NO clean, dry socks in the house for any member of the family.

Hi Patty,

I've been lurking in the background reading all that's going on - figured it was all said, but wanted you to know you have my support as well. You should be VERY proud of what you have accomplished! However sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we are doing especially when it feels so good, we tend to unknowingly shut out our loved ones - just make sure you aren't doing that. Men (no offense guys!) tend to be sensitive about that :wink:

Please let me know when and where in March you have your next fight! If it's within driving distance I want to be there! Take Care

I think part of hubby's resistance is that I am a stay at home mom. When he is home, he is used to me being there. When he was working, he would be home on weekends, and so would I, but for the last few months he has been home on unemployment. He wants me always there. I had the convo with him that I need to get my exersice and more than that, I need to do karate, and he is more than welcome to come with. I agreed to cut a nights that I go. My son does karate too, his nights are different than mine, so I am out nearly every night. I told him I would do one of my classes with him to free up a night during the week. At least when I do kids class, we can play games! Weekends I have always left open for family time. I don't think he would be like this if I were just bringing my son to sports, I think part of it is me having a some social life that doesn't involve him. I hope he will adjust. Time will tell, or he will find a job and things will be normal again.

ahhhh...I missed his change in employment - THAT explains it! Once he gets back on his feet his self esteem and need for you to be around all the time will change. I wish you both lots of luck! Things happen for a reason - my losing my corporate job was a life saver! :) A few years ago I was a mess - had to rebuild - and here I am, with all of you getting healthy and fit! :)

You can try to encourage him AGAIN to do something instead of being a lazy a$$ at home.
He must be feeling down and need you to be around to support him (he also might be a bit needy b/c he is jealous)
But regardless... He should try to do something to keep him busy and shouldn't hold you back.

I have 3 words for you Patty. YOU ARE AMAZING!

You are such an inspiration! Don't you for one second feel quilty for your workout schedule or social life away from home. You DESERVE to have a hobby and you deserve to reserve atleast a couple of hours each day to just focus on you. I'm a firm believer that taking a little bit of time each day to do something healthy for yourself is completely necessary in helping a person stay balanced.... which in turn can help to make you a better parent, spouse, and friend. Keep up the great work Patty!

Gosh, I hope my post didn't indicate I was taking your husbands side - you rock Patty!! I couldn't be prouder of you and in no way do I think you should feel guilty or quit or any of that because of your husbands demands. I was just trying to see the other side a bit - because he is who you live with and who you' re raising 6 children (taken from memory) with and harmony between the two of you is extremely important. You always have my support!

I didn't get that from your post at all... You were simply saying why her hubby could be acting the way he is. There are two sides to every story and I thought it was positive that you tried to understand why he was acting the way he was instead of automatically taking ONLY one side. :wink:

Lu you rock! I actually like the devils advocate posistion every once in a while. You did not make me feel like you were on his side. I just got frustrated with him. We had the talk bossman wrote of and hopefully it will all work out, actually it will all workout. We are trying to raise 5 kids, the sixth is engaged to be married, so threrefore, he is raised. I sometimes let things pile up. You all are a big help because I felt better, just from telling someone. Felt empowered to speak to him and make a change in what is going on. He hasn't said anything negative about karate since we spoke.

Today has been a good day. Put in a really good weight workout, and then helped to unload about 2000 pounds of government food for the food pantry. Arms are a bit sore, along with my back, so I just took some Aleve so I don't accumulate anymore aches while I sleep!

I did a belt test on Friday night and I am now a Blue belt, so much prettier than orange. We had a family christams party on Saturday, so I tested with the kids class. Too funny. There were also a couple of other adults that tested with me and two people testing for their black belt. After our testing was done, the black belt testing continued. They did this thing called a bo tobi. You hold a stick, about 3 feet long by each end, then while holding it you jump over, it through your arms and back again, 100 times!! They also had to do 100 push-ups on their finger tips. I still have problems doing push-ups on my knuckles.

Family christmas party, everyone went nuts over how much weight I have lost. An hour later , i was getting taken aside and asked if I were eating. My cousin asked me this while I had a mouthful of cheesecake, lol! Then they all took turns to tell me that I am done losing weight and should stop trying. I am skinny enough. I have found my friends tell me the same thing...all the time. Feels weird, I look into the mirror and like what I see, but can see room for improvement. 5' 6" and over 170 is overweight still. I want to be middleweight for my next fight. Actually, i just don't want to be a heavyweight by my next fight.

Well off to practice my push-ups, I have 5 years to get them right!

I remembered I had to spar my butt off to earn my blue belt... :P
