Thanks :) I am reading yours as well and I really hope your knee is feeling better! Take it easy on it, make sure it heals before you do much with it.

I told my doctor about the knee and he told me to rub some dirt on it and suck it up. Well, that's not exactly what he said but I am close to the spirit of what he said

Friday I used as a rest day - seems kind of silly because I just started training on Thursday, LOL! But I had a migraine and didn't think it was wise to pass out running :) But my runner friend called and asked if I wanted to run with her on Saturday morning so we met at 7:00 and did a 3 mile that she runs regularly. She has been a runner since junior high so I was really worried about keeping up. She set the pace, which was faster than I normally go. Boy, was I huffing and puffing! There were even a couple of small hills, which I barely made it up  But I kept up (well, I was usually one pace behind, but I held my own). I don't know if she slowed down later in the run or if I finally found my stride, but it got easier as we went. By the end of the three miles I felt like I was half dead :) I don't know our time because I didn't wear my watch and didn't look at a clock.

I am not sure if I am going to run today. I am actually meeting my family later for my b-day dinner, we are grilling out - it is 90 degrees here. I don't ever remember it being this warm on my birthday! But after dinner I am going to either run or do my weights DVD. Either way I will work out :)

Hope everybody is having a great weekend!

Interesting suggestion from a doctor  Well, just don't re-injure it, that's no fun!

I agree about the suggestion. Sounds like the sort of medic that would suggest drinking Urine and using Ear Candles, as a relevent form of modality :P.

Last night I almost decided not to run. It was hot. It was REALLY muggy. It was my birthday. I just got done eating steak, beans, potato salad and a piece of DQ ice cream cake. I had all of these excuses running through my head of why I shouldn't run. Then my runner friend called and asked if I would like to run with her. Thank goodness for runner friends :)

We did the same 3 miles that we ran on Saturday, only the air was so heavy and humid we were wet just standing there! But we ran anyway. At one point I apologized for slowing her down, but she said I wasn't at all, she was still going the same pace she normally does, so that felt good! When we get to about the last 50 yards we sprint - I had to stop and walk at about 20 yards to go, the ice cream cake was threatening to cause problems!! I was so disappointed that I didn't finish but I knew I would have tossed my cookies (or cake!) if I had finished. I am sure it was a combination of the heat and the meal I ate before I ran. I certainly learned my lesson there!

Having a running partner is a lifesaver. I'm so glad you have someone to run with - it will really help you with your 1/2 m. training.
I am already feeling discouraged as I am facing 4 months of training in the Texas summer heat and no running partner. :| I need to find someone in my running group that has a pace similar to mine. So far, everyone I have talked to is only training for the 1/2 m. in the upcoming Oct. race event. They said training for a full marathon during the hot summer months is insane. I'm thinking I may switch to the 1/2 m. too, and save the full m. until Jan., or Feb. races. 8) idk yet.
Keep up the good work and great attitude...you are doing awesome!!!

Don't get discouraged! Think about what you would tell me if I was getting discouraged. You would tell me that I have it in me and that I am capable of doing it! Do you have a running group in your area? I know there is one here that you can join and there are runners of all levels so there are always people to run with. You should look into that! And as for training in the summer months, could you do your training in the mornings before it gets too hot? You can do it, I know you can :)

LOL! Yes, you are right, that is what I would tell you. I'll get it all figured out, and if I don't find a steady running partner, then I'll just do it alone - I've trained alone for 3 of my 1/2 marathons - but I will do it! (I'm laughing right now, because I accidentally typed "marathongs"..... bwahahahaha!) :D

I just remembered - my blister the size of Texas re-blistered during my run last night :( Ouch! Does anybody have any suggestions for not getting blisters?
