I just typed in a long post about todays 5k. When I pressed the submit button it told me I had to login again. When I did that I lost the whole post. :x I will try to type it in again tomorrow. My muscles are pretty sore now from the 5k and I am going to take a nap.

I sleep 11 hours straight after going to sleep early last night and my body is still sore. I am going to type the short version of yesterday's 5k. After my first 5k I set a goal of beating 34 minutes on the next 5k. But, in my training I was unable to sustain a sub 11 min pace for even one mile. I would have had to maintained at least a 10:56 average to make my goal. In the post I tried to post yesterday I went into detail about how my garmin watch did its own thing during the race so I do not have a good readout for the race. The short version is that for some reason it got set to pause for a portion of the race. I also did not turn it off immediately after crossing the finish. Sometime in the begining of the race I decided I was going to beat that 34min goal no matter what. I finished in 33:45. I am paying the price today  I also dropped 2lbs in yesterdays weigh in putting me at 219 now. I thought I would stay in the 220s forever.

Edgar,
I didn't say before now but you have inspired me a lot regarding my running - to the point where I ran a half marathon this weekend. I put up a post about it on my journal.
Hope the muscles ease soon from your great run on the weekend. Congratulations and well done!

Thanks. I am feeling less sore this evening and I am now confident I can run tomorrow morning. I'm thinking 4 miles at an easy pace.

I did a 4 mile run this moring. It seemed like my legs still had not recovered from the 5k. I especially struggled on the last mile. I am not sure I really want to push hard on this Saturday's 5k. I am leaving for Las Vegas Sunday and I don't want to be in the pain I was in yesterday while sitting in an airplane for 4 hours. My problem will be holding myself back. I did not plan to push real hard on Sunday's 5k but once I started running something happened that made me push hard. I also have a little voice telling me I can go under 33 minutes. If I push I know I will be in pain for a day. I'll see how things go.

...it's called racing..

listen to the voice...if you feel you can achieve it, then you are most likely going to want to try for it, no sense holding back - any pain or soreness will be worth it. Remember the true victory comes from the effort given, not the result.
I say GO FOR IT - leave it all out there!!!! (but that's just the runner in me - can't help it!)

Edgar I couldn't get over the motivation I felt during the race to push it. I had to hold myself back. Crazy isn't it?
Great run today, steady splits.

Rest day. Wow, I am still a little sore   Tomorrow's run with the 10k group will be 2.5 miles. I really don't want to run much farther than that tomorrow.

Someone emailed me this link today. I think it is pretty cool. I really understand where this guy is coming from.

Edit: Lynne, I didn't see that you had posted this same link before I did. Someone from my running group emailed it to me this morning.

By the way I found this picture on the website for the organization that held the 5k I ran last Sunday. It is a picture of me from when I did a 3k walk with them last September. I remember I really had to huff and puff through that walk.

Hooray, I am on vacation! Tomorrow, I am shopping for clothes. Saturday I run another 5k race. Sunday I am off to Las Vegas.

I ran with the 10k group today. Today I was interviewed for an article about going from being a fat old sick guy to a being a runner. I will admit my ego liked the attention.
