Hoping to definitely knock that down a peg or two. :D It has a gigantic hill, though...so the first part is down and the second part is allllll up. We'll see how it goes. Good luck, and congrats on the article!

I had read about that in your journal and thought how similar your first 5k was to mine. There are no gigantic hills in my area, but first 5k did have a long gently sloping hill that was also downhill on the way out and uphill on the wayback. Our time was even similar. Having seen your improvement gives me hope.

The good news is since I am leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow morning I weighed in a day early and am down another 2 pounds putting me at 217.

On my 5k race today I had a goal of going under 33 min. Not only did I not make that goal I went over 34minutes for a time of 34:08. It was a hilly course through a suburban forest preserve which is about the only place you can find any hills around here. It is not like they were formidable hills. Someone from another part of the country would say, "what hills'? I just could not motivate myself to run faster. I speed up at the end, but I could not even get myself to sprint at the end. As for the 5k itsself it was the best organized one I have run so far. They even had 2 former Chicago Bears cheering us on at the starting line. One was from the 85 Championship team. A nice touch was that everyone got finishers ribbons. That almost made up for missing my time goal. There was a party with food and a live band afterward. I didn't stay for the party. Sorry, Lynne, I didn't get any pics. I hope Allison had a good run today. :D

congrats on the race Edgar! You may not have reached the time you wanted, BUT you set a new PR for yourself! Your time was over 3 minutes faster than your previous 5K - that is awesome!

Don't sweat the goal that never happened for you, just be proud of yourself for what you did. There's probably many who did worse or just gave up part way through.

Today was my first full day back from Vegas. I am not going to survey the damage in the weight department on a scale for a few weeks. I did plan on hitting the buffet lines like a monster hitting the city in a Japanese movie, but it looks like my stomach is not as large as it used to be. I ate unhealthy but not to excess. Despite a killer hangover I got up Tuesday morning and did a 3 mile run. I ran it pretty slow because I was in bad shape. While I was running on the strip I overheard someone say, "There goes one of those running nuts". I made the mistake of buying a new pair of street shoes before leaving for Vegas and I did alot of walking on the strip in them. I now have a blister on the bottom of my left foot. As a result I am going to have a miserable run tonight. Well, I am leaving now to go meet for my group run. We are doing 3 miles tonight.

Well if they end up in the same state as you have recently, by the end it will be less of a group run and more of a group wince: wink:
