Edgar,
I didn't say before now but you have inspired me a lot regarding my running - to the point where I ran a half marathon this weekend. I put up a post about it on my journal.
Hope the muscles ease soon from your great run on the weekend. Congratulations and well done!

Thanks. I am feeling less sore this evening and I am now confident I can run tomorrow morning. I'm thinking 4 miles at an easy pace.

I did a 4 mile run this moring. It seemed like my legs still had not recovered from the 5k. I especially struggled on the last mile. I am not sure I really want to push hard on this Saturday's 5k. I am leaving for Las Vegas Sunday and I don't want to be in the pain I was in yesterday while sitting in an airplane for 4 hours. My problem will be holding myself back. I did not plan to push real hard on Sunday's 5k but once I started running something happened that made me push hard. I also have a little voice telling me I can go under 33 minutes. If I push I know I will be in pain for a day. I'll see how things go.

...it's called racing..

listen to the voice...if you feel you can achieve it, then you are most likely going to want to try for it, no sense holding back - any pain or soreness will be worth it. Remember the true victory comes from the effort given, not the result.
I say GO FOR IT - leave it all out there!!!! (but that's just the runner in me - can't help it!)

Edgar I couldn't get over the motivation I felt during the race to push it. I had to hold myself back. Crazy isn't it?
Great run today, steady splits.

Rest day. Wow, I am still a little sore   Tomorrow's run with the 10k group will be 2.5 miles. I really don't want to run much farther than that tomorrow.

Someone emailed me this link today. I think it is pretty cool. I really understand where this guy is coming from.

Edit: Lynne, I didn't see that you had posted this same link before I did. Someone from my running group emailed it to me this morning.

By the way I found this picture on the website for the organization that held the 5k I ran last Sunday. It is a picture of me from when I did a 3k walk with them last September. I remember I really had to huff and puff through that walk.

Hooray, I am on vacation! Tomorrow, I am shopping for clothes. Saturday I run another 5k race. Sunday I am off to Las Vegas.

I ran with the 10k group today. Today I was interviewed for an article about going from being a fat old sick guy to a being a runner. I will admit my ego liked the attention.

Hoping to definitely knock that down a peg or two. :D It has a gigantic hill, though...so the first part is down and the second part is allllll up. We'll see how it goes. Good luck, and congrats on the article!

I had read about that in your journal and thought how similar your first 5k was to mine. There are no gigantic hills in my area, but first 5k did have a long gently sloping hill that was also downhill on the way out and uphill on the wayback. Our time was even similar. Having seen your improvement gives me hope.

The good news is since I am leaving for Las Vegas tomorrow morning I weighed in a day early and am down another 2 pounds putting me at 217.

On my 5k race today I had a goal of going under 33 min. Not only did I not make that goal I went over 34minutes for a time of 34:08. It was a hilly course through a suburban forest preserve which is about the only place you can find any hills around here. It is not like they were formidable hills. Someone from another part of the country would say, "what hills'? I just could not motivate myself to run faster. I speed up at the end, but I could not even get myself to sprint at the end. As for the 5k itsself it was the best organized one I have run so far. They even had 2 former Chicago Bears cheering us on at the starting line. One was from the 85 Championship team. A nice touch was that everyone got finishers ribbons. That almost made up for missing my time goal. There was a party with food and a live band afterward. I didn't stay for the party. Sorry, Lynne, I didn't get any pics. I hope Allison had a good run today. :D

congrats on the race Edgar! You may not have reached the time you wanted, BUT you set a new PR for yourself! Your time was over 3 minutes faster than your previous 5K - that is awesome!
