Conquering Eating Disorders

Postby Wendy32 » Tue Jan 25, 2011 8:35 pm

This article is to let people know who suffer from eating disorders that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I suffered from bulimia for almost 10 years. I would overeat and overexercise, rarely did I purge. I constantly worried about how I looked- and always seemed to feel fat. It didn't matter what other people thought, because they would always comment on how beautiful or skinny I was. Conquering an eating disorder entails dealing with underlying issues that lead to this almost seemingly uncontrollable behavior. I realized that I needed to go to therapy and deal with issues such as being molested when I was a child and growing up in a household with a bipolar stepmother. My childhood was so out-of-control that I needed to find a way of controlling my life. Now I realize why I did what I did. I am not saying that there aren't weak moments- where I want to emotionally eat- but now I am aware and try to deal with the emotions in a different way. I am a much healthier and happier person now. You can be too. You sometimes have to make a decision to let go of those that cause you pain. Quote: Many people think that holding onto someone makes you stronger, but sometimes it's letting go that enhances your life. Good luck in your journey!

I admire this post. A lot. I mean, I had a very rough childhood but I'm no where near being okay with discussing it. Not even with my therapist. But I definitely admire your courage and your honesty. :] Thank you for being real. :]

My being honest will help others to realize they aren't alone. There is too much emotional and physical abuse going on with children and adults--it is almost unreal. When you really think about it--abuse leads to eating disorders-which lead to a wide range of health issues (diabetes, heart disease, cancer). Then you multiply the health problems and wonder why our healthcare system is so out-of-control. I want to help people get their life back in control!

I admire you a lot for talking about that. I often find that words like that do emote very well, past situations and scenarios, tinged with tragedy and heartache, but at the same time, the words carry a beauty and a truthful honesty, that deserves to be respected a lot.

You do have a right to be very proud of what you posted. You may not consider it so, but many wouldn't be able to do it, whereas you do and for that you deserve much credit :).

I have appreciated what you have posted so far towards others and I do hope you will stick around, because someone with your emotional qualities and ability to touch others, is someone well worth embracing and supporting, within an open minded community like ours.

I wish you a lot of luck in your future and thank you for your time and words and I hope you will continue to be part of what we do here :).

Thank you very much, I just want to awaken life into people and make them realize there is more to life then carrying around burdens that happen in the past. Whether yesterday, months ago, or years ago--you can change your life for the better one day at a time.

Thank you, Wendy. I'm almost a little jealous of the fact that you have been able to move forward so well. I'm stuck with my past the way it is and I can't seem to come to terms with it the way you have. I wish you the very best in all of your endeavors.

It has taken a lot of introspection and strength to move forward. You can do it- one step and one day at a time. It will set you free so you can fully enjoy life.
