Exercise after Hysterectomy

Postby Wendy32 » Wed Jan 26, 2011 8:17 pm

I had a hysterectomy over 3 years ago. I still have my ovaries- but your body recognizes the changes and I have had mild hot flashes-premenopause. I have also needed to change my training technique because when I do plyo training- I almost feel a dropping sensation. I don't have prolapse-which I thought it was, but I have been told scar tissue can have strange sensations. The only 2 types of exercise I have cut out are plyo and running-other then that I do fine. I gained 10lbs after my hysterectomy and it took me almost 3 years to finally lose it. What motivated me was training for a figure competition. The strict diet finally got my body revved and burning calories. I placed 7th in tall and 12th in masters. I didn't care about how I placed- the fact was that I accomplished a tough goal and felt good about myself. Now get motivated- maybe u are going on vacation, have a class or family reunion--set a goal! Maybe there is a dress u would like to fit in or a size u would like to reach. You can do anything u put your mind to. Don't let your mind defeat!

I competed in the Ohio NPC shows. One show back in 2003 in Lakewood, and my most recent one was May 2010 in Toledo--the Julie Palmer show. I competed in the tall and master's division. I have been having issues posting pics on here. They are jpeg- but it keeps telling me the size isn't correct, any suggestions??

If you have a photobucket account or flickr or picasa something like that, just use the picture code inserted between the tags and that should work for you :).

Hey Wendy - I had a hysterectomy just over a year ago (mine was keyhole) and they also left my ovaries. I did have symptons in the first year of hot flashes etc but that has now passed!

You have given me some inspiration - I would LOVE to go into a figure competition (not sure if I can at my age tho??!!)

I have some weight to lose, but am currently undertaking a training program with my personal trainer which I started 6 weeks ago. I have lost 18lbs in 6 weeks which I am really pleased about (I am on an Elimination Diet - no wheat, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, or processed foods). In 3 weeks on the program I lost 10% body fat and gained 4% muscle. Going to have another weigh in today.

Would love to see some of your pictures!!

At your age you certainly could compete :).

About 5 years ago, I saw pictures of a woman who was competing in a seniors event in America and she was 51, and ripped, so it can happen and you shouldn't think you've missed the boat, because people older than you have done a few that had never done them before, so there's time on your side.

If you want to do something like that, then go for it, because it's not too late :).

thanks - I am certainly determined to do it now!

Spoke to my personal trainer yesterday who is going to help (obviously!). This site is brill - just found a load of exercises that I can do at home with my stretch bands :D

Just got to lose a couple more stone but as I am weight training now, I guess results will gradually show over time.

Can't wait!!

Don't let age hinder any of your goals. I know you can do it. I am going to get pics on here soon, I was having issues downloading. I am currently doing the insanity program-it is very intense!!!! But I love it because it makes me feel! And every week it gets a little easier. Anyone can do anything if they can conquer their mind!! Too many people use age, health problems, and other excuses as a reason for not exercising and staying healthy.
