Thanks Joc!

This week has been tough. I was really sore after Tuesday's nights workout. Didn't workout any for the rest of the week.

Saturday's workout:
8.6 mile long run. Easy pace, but still hard work. Felt good overall, struggled last 2 miles, but pushed through and finished strong.
Total mileage for the week so far is 17.6, my training schedule calls for 19, so I may run an easy 2.4 miles tomorrow to finish the week at 19. :D

8.6 miles nice! Do you have to even do any half marathon training?? It seems like your pretty much ready for it.

I wish I was! But I do need the training. It is helping me build endurance and strength to last for 2+ hours of constant running. Plus, remember it is a stepping stone to the marathon i want to run in April. The 1/2 marathon is the short term goal, and is also a good training tool to help me get ready or the BIG ONE!

somebody brought fudge to work today. must.......be.......strong........

I'm lucky fudge isnin't my weakness. I don't even eat the fudge we buy in macinac each year. :)

My biggest weakness is stuff like cake with a lot of frosting vanilla, and certain pies. Yummy!! Be strong Lynne!!

Can't wait to read about your marathon training. I'm excited for you! I think that is a great goal for turning 50. :D

well....I was able to resist the fudge, it was the rum cake that did me in.  but the good thing is that I cut a small slice, ate about half of it and threw the rest away, it was just too sweet, rich - I couldn't handle it.
I do plan in indulge Christmas day at my mom's house. She is making all our favorite things, and i love them all, so I will try to just eat a little of each. REally is I think about it, I just want the taste..I don't need a huge portion, just enough to satiate my palette. I am going to really try to keep that in mind thru out this holiday season. Taste it and the MOVE ON. :D

Monday's workout:
6.2 mile hill run. Moderate pace.
It was alot warmer than it has been and extremely humid. In fact the last mile it started to rain - but that felt really good! a slow drizzle with a breeze. Nice.

Tuesday's workout:
Speedwork. 1/10th mile sprint repeats with 10 pushups w/side plank & 20 squats w/holding for 10 seconds midway thru. Repeat 5 times.

Today's workout:

7.5 mile training run. Steady pace mostly, but picked it up here and there. Ran with a group of 9 runners. We dressed festive - I wore a santa hat (which I took off after 4 miles...too hot!) a few others wore bells and we all pretty much dressed in red. It was fun - but still got the work done. :D

Weighed myself this morning - 1.4 lb increase. :x But I'm not gonna freak out over it. I'm still under 160, but now I know I need to watch a little closer what I'm eating. I have let myself get a little off track, with all the holiday foods, office party, cookie baking, etc. Need to workout more also - missed 2 days this week.

I hope each and everyone one of you has a blessed, happy Christmas and holiday season.

The main thing is you identified triggers that caused the gain, so you can put them right.

This is just a small stumble on an otherwiase fairly productive road and you're getting tangible progress not to mention good results in your races so be proud of yourself Lynne, because i'm proud of you and at 49 you look great and you're mostly doing the right things despite age potentially becoming a slight hinderance as the process slightly works against potential progress.

Good job :).

Call me crazy...but I signed up for another 5K race this weekend! On New years eve. Can't think of a better way to end the year than with a race...well I probably could but that would be a whole nuther thread...

Anyway, looking forward to it. I used my new Garmin watch last night on my run. I really like it. Nice to be able to keep track of my pace. It even has timers that you can set to go off each mile, half mile, whatever distance you want, plus you can set it to beep at you if you go under a preset pace...a feature I plan to take full advantage of in this Saturday's race. I have a certain time I want to finish in, and I'm going to set the beep to go off if go slower than the average pace i need to run to finish in the time i want. How cool is that!?

Today's workout:

3 or 4 mile tempo run. Focusing on running efficiency. Smooth even strides, no bouncing, or stomping - midfoot strike, etc.

Can't wait to hear how it works in your race! Nice way to end the new year.

Yes it was! My watch really helped me watch my pace. I finished with the fastest time I've had this year! 34 seconds faster than my fastest time previous. Woo Hoo! Managed to get 2nd place in my age group. :D
My goal this year was to finish a 5k under 30:00. While that is certainly not a blazing time by any means - it was huge fore me to attain. Last year I was running 32 min and even a 34 min. 5K. Really hard for me to stomach since i used to run 23 and 24 minute 5K a few years ago (well more like 10 yrs. ago...) I realized with age we lose some speed but going from being one of the fastest, usually finishing 1st or 2nd to being the slowest, never placing and trying not to be dead last was a very humbling experience for me. I had let years of bad habits pile up, and I lost my way, and gained so much weight. While I was still a runner at heart, my body was unable to do what I wanted it to do with all the extra weight.
So...I made a little goal for myself - to work hard, lose weight, and try to finish a 5K in under 30 minutes. Well...this year is ending well. :D
I finished today's race in 29:39. And I have lost weight and improved my fitness to a new level. I'm so excited to see what 2012 brings!
