Yes it was! My watch really helped me watch my pace. I finished with the fastest time I've had this year! 34 seconds faster than my fastest time previous. Woo Hoo! Managed to get 2nd place in my age group.
My goal this year was to finish a 5k under 30:00. While that is certainly not a blazing time by any means - it was huge fore me to attain. Last year I was running 32 min and even a 34 min. 5K. Really hard for me to stomach since i used to run 23 and 24 minute 5K a few years ago (well more like 10 yrs. ago...) I realized with age we lose some speed but going from being one of the fastest, usually finishing 1st or 2nd to being the slowest, never placing and trying not to be dead last was a very humbling experience for me. I had let years of bad habits pile up, and I lost my way, and gained so much weight. While I was still a runner at heart, my body was unable to do what I wanted it to do with all the extra weight.
So...I made a little goal for myself - to work hard, lose weight, and try to finish a 5K in under 30 minutes. Well...this year is ending well.
I finished today's race in 29:39.

And I have lost weight and improved my fitness to a new level. I'm so excited to see what 2012 brings!
