Thanks guys! It always feels good to reach and exceed a goal. The hard part of all of this is to maintain and not go backwards in either fitness level or weight loss. Goals are about the only way I can find the motivation to really work hard and stay consistent in my diet and exercise. The down side is after I meet one of those goals I have to be very careful not to lose motivation and/or "reward" myself with a week or so of irresponsible food choices - a pattern I have been way too guilty of in the past. It's no reward if it means I go backwards and have to "re-lose" those hard earned pounds. Plus I have to remember that I am NOT at my weight loss goal yet - still have at least 20 to 25 lbs. to lose. :? I guess I will always be some sort of "work in progress". :D

Monday's workout:
7.5 mile run. Just stepped out my door and took off, no real plan or route. Just ran. It started out good, but after about 3 miles it was a real struggle to keep going. I felt tired and even a little bored - yes you heard it from me  I just wasn't "into" it. I don't know what the problem was. The weather was perfect, bright sunny skies, around 45 degrees. I wasn't rushed for time, I was well rested, so it was frustrating. But I just have to move on - every workout can't be a PR, most of them are just work, a way to get the results I want.
Need to get back in the gym for some cross training, strength workouts - I miss those. :(

Still have the 1/2 marathon goal in mind, plus I'm thinking about a few triathlons in the spring...

Sometimes... I think, I should start running too!!! Your energy is so inspiring and I love how you ended last year with a race!
I agree with weight lost – It’s a working process!! Maintaining it is also another world of it’s own and not fall back!
I guess having a community like keep someone like me motivated and continue to push myself!
Because someone like you always keep things positive.

Nokie hit it on the head. anyone who subscribes to a physical liefstyle is a work in progress for life. You work to acheive, then you work to sustain. I am still a work in progress and want to be for as long as I can be :).

That is EXACTLY how I get when I don't have a plan before I run. If I plan what I am going to run, either distance or time, I do it. If I just start running without knowing where I am going or how far or how long, then I may as well just do something else because my mind just isn't in it. I guess I need a goal to work towards.

you know, I never thought of it that way - you may be right. I thought that by not having any set course or time limit that I would feel free and relaxed and totally enjoy it - but it was the opposite. I was tired, bored and totally wanting to quit after about 3 miles. Even having the music didn't help. I haven't ran with music in a couple of months - not used to it.

Speaking of music - One funny thing happened: while i was running and listening to a new song that was really hard rock (sounded similar to Metallica), since I wasn't used to wearing earbuds and having music - there was a point in the song where the music shrieked a few sharp high notes and I actually flinched, flung my arms out like I was bracing for impact or something and nearly tripped over my own feet! I'm sure I looked hilarious to cars passing by! Yeah, leave it to me to be the day's entertainment for total strangers...

 they probably thought they needed to call someone for help...

Was out of town for the weekend - down on the coast. Had a nice 6.5 mile beach run - mid 70's temps. Crazy weather, one day hot, next day cold.

Was doing some air squats and mountain climbers yesterday morning, and somehow hurt my left knee. It is very sore and feels swollen. will have to give it a day or two rest before running.

Plans have changed due to circumstances out of my control. Not doing the 1/2 marathon in February. Instead I will do a 10K race (6.2 miles) in Feb., a 5k race in March, and then in April, a 1/2 marathon and also a triathlon. So, the "big one" will have to wait a little longer. I am trying not to worry about it. Or obsess over it. I've got plenty to train for already this year, so will have to wait and see on the 26.2. :D

just noticed i have reached 3000 posts today. woo hoo!

thank you Becky! 50 is fast approaching - it's freakin' me out a little. Don't feel 50 (well some days, maybe, ) but I honestly don't think or feel like my age....not sure if that is always a good thing.

Tuesdays workout:

1 mile treadmill warmup 10:13
4 quarter mile repeats at 9:03 mile pace

knee is still a little sore from overdoing it on mountain climbers monday. But feels a bit better today. 8)

Thanks Nokie and Joc - it's just a number, right? Doesn't have to mean it's time to start looking for an old folks home
but when i do, they better have a gym and a treadmill!

Wednesday's workout:

5.5 mile hill run. Ran with some of my running group. One of them is running the houston marathon this weekend.
Knees were a little sore, but got better as I ran. Felt good overall.

Meals for today:
b: 2 scrambled eggs, 3 slices bacon
l: meatloaf, cabbage, pears (the meatloaf was gross, only ate a little of it - got it from our local lunch deli - yuck!)
snack: apple w/pb
after run: protein shake, small banana
d: lean pork chop, baked potato

new goal (might as well put it out there...) : 153 lbs. by Feb 3. :D
ultimate goal would be 150lbs. by feb 11th when i run my 10K race. - a girl can dream can't she?
