Upper Middle Back Discomfort

Postby jacksayz » Thu Jan 12, 2012 6:17 am

I am experiencing discomfort in my upper middle back due to weight training. Of course since it is not pain (yet) I would prefer not to stop training not to lose my hard earned gains. Has anyone had similar problems? What have you done and do you have any good tips on easing or getting rid of this discomfort, maybe there is a good stretching technique??

many thanks for your help and support,
Jacksayz

1. Try alternative exercises.

2. Adjust technique.

3. Try something like a few mild Yoga moves and see if that helps.

4. Explore the possibility of deep tissue massage.

There's some food for thought for you :).

many thanks for your reply

1. Try alternative exercises. will try and see what happens

2. Adjust technique. same as above

3. Try something like a few mild Yoga moves and see if that helps. I have tried yoga but it did not help. for some reason I was more aware of the discomfort :(

4. Explore the possibility of deep tissue massage. This could be a good solution

thanks again

Muscle cramping is caused by a few different things: Dehydration, lack of oxygen in muscles and not enough stretching. You must drink plenty, take protein to repair muscles, have it rubbed to increase blood flow and oxygen, and don't forget to stretch a lot. Sorry you are having this discomfort like I have before and the beginning to healing is recognition.

Lack of sodium can cause cramping too, meaning if Salt is the cause, it's either

A: Inadequate Salt intake

B: Too much sweating

C: Both.

Pain in this area is commonly related to muscular imbalance from over training the chest, weak scapula stabilization and overhead lifting with with poor cervical posture. Leading to tightness and pain in the rhomboids and mid/upper traps.

Correction options:
Get assessment with physio, massage therapist or yipfit.com.
Ideally, you can do all three. If you don't have coverage than yipfit will be your easiest plan. Try the upperback pain rehab video by Dr. Yates.
