Injury Prevention Exercises - Fitness Tips For
Desk Job Employees
Desk
work makes up a huge portion of the career population. Some do it
from home, others at a location or building but the largest portion
of the job description is done seated.
Many companies will try to help cater to your health and offer
you the choice of ergonomic seating, desks and so on but my suggestion
is to ask them for a body ball chair. You will want to use it outside
of the chair frame when you can but for the times you need the extra
support, the chair frame allows you to put the ball in and use it
as a seat without wobble.
This still helps with posture and allows your body do have to do
some conscious work toward spinal alignment but the greatest thing
is to be able to take the ball for out for short workout sessions
during your breaks. Start off with a chest stretch especially if
you are working on a computer quite a bit but also look a quick
set of these exercises. Break them out through the week doing a
few each day.
Ball squats are your first exercise and all you need is a wall
so you can lean on the ball while it leans on a wall. Crunches can
be done on the ball comfortably and you can even sneak those into
your work day while you are between calls or taking a breath.
Hamstrings can be trained on the ball, with you bridged on the
ground, on your upper back and heels on the ball, you roll the ball
toward your tush with your heels while hips remain in the air. This
one works your whole core, hams, glutes and balance.
These quick exercise hits will refresh your outlook and day while
adding a spark of energy since it helps get some nice rich oxygen
to the muscles recharging them. The stretches do the same with oxygen
to the body so don't hesitate to give yourself a chest stretch each
time you go to the washroom. It takes seconds and does wonders.
Desk workers seem to find it much easier to get water in but also
too easy to eat, and drink and find that their peers are constantly
showing their love by bringing in treats to the office. It is nice
to enjoy this once a week but choose which to go for and forfeit
the rest. If you must take a bite to be polite, then a bite is fine,
literally but stop with that.
As with most everyone, I always suggest 1-2 liters of water intake
daily. I know coffee is especially big in the office atmosphere
but you can match your coffee with a serving of water each time,
this way it's all fair! Balance is the key with this one.
