Muscle Building Questions - Warming Up
Before Weight Lifting Workout
Question: My friend told me that he doesn't do any warmup before weight
training but only stretches his muscles as he tends to lose energy after the warmup
and does not have enough energy to lift weights. But for me, I do both stretching
and also a warmup for about 20 mins before weight training and I still have enough
energy to do weight training. We did the same warmup for the same amount of time.
My friend is a little shorter than me and also thinner than me. We also ate almost
the same food at the same time before we hit the gym. Am I able to the warmup
mentioned above as opposed to my friend because I have a bigger mass than him?
What is a good way to do a warmup before weight training without losing much energy
to weight train?
Answer: Every person's body is different which will cause some to be much
stronger than others. some people have stronger tendons/ligaments and can simply
lift much higher weight than people of the same height/weight. It really comes
down to genetics. In terms of warming up, I recommend getting a light
warmup of cardio to get your body warm and a little sweat going before starting
your weight training routine. This can consist of about 10-15 minutes of walking
or stationary bike. You will also want to complete at least 1 set of high repetitions
of the first exercise (15-20 reps) to get the specific muscle group warmed up.
