Six Pack Abs Questions - Toning and Firming Abs After Abdominal Surgery

fitness-advice Question:
A year ago I was a thin kid at 111 lbs. I was hospitalized after complications from an appendectomy and had zero food intake for 14 days. I also had abdominal surgery. I think my metabolism went into shock and the surgical area muscles added to my problem now. I have gained 30 some lbs. and have a gut I can't seem to shake. I've tried eating very healthy and joined a fitness club yesterday. How can you advise me to get started at the gym to focus on this area?

fitness-advice Answer:
In terms of ridding fat from the stomach, your diet will be about 90% of your results. Without proper diet to shed the weight, you could do situps and AB exercises all day and not get the results you're after. After you have shed most of the weight with proper diet and cardio, I would then focus on specific target training for the abdominal region. That being said, since you have had surgical procedure, I recommend contacting your physician before starting any training regimen just to make sure you are fine.
