Kerryn's
Weight Loss Story!
When did you become unhappy with your weight?
When I saw
my 40th birthday photos in December 2000 - I was horrified! As well, I had health
problems, hated shopping for clothes, and just couldn't keep up with my 3 sons.
It took me almost 3 more years to do something about it though.
What made you decide to lose weight?
I finally received
a wake-up call when my mother had to have a total hip replacement. I could see
myself headed the same way in another 20 years if I didn't do something NOW.
What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
I totally overhauled the way I ate - I switched to small, frequent meals and
mostly unprocessed foods like fruit and vegetables, oats, yogurt and lean meat
and fish. The biggest change of all for me was joining a gym. I'd never really
exercised, apart from walking and thought that I was going to hate it. To my surprise,
I loved weight training!
What was most challenging about losing weight?
Maintaining
my focus was hard at times when results weren't happening. I had to remind myself
that consistently eating right and exercising would pay off - I just had to learn
to be patient.
How long did it take you to start to see results?
Weight
loss started happening right away, but it was at about the 6-week mark that I
realized my shape was changing, thanks to weight training. There were a few times
when my weight loss plateaued, but overall it was steady progress.
How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
I lost almost 60 pounds in just over a year, then maintained my weight for
another year and a half before hiring a trainer to help me reach my next goal
of ditching another 10 pounds.
How long have you maintained your weight loss and how do you do it?
I've maintained my weight loss for a year, by continuing my training regimen
and making sure I have 5 or 6 small healthy meals each day. I still indulge in
things like chocolate and wine, but not usually more than once a week.
How has your life changed now that you've lost weight?
My health has improved so much that my doctors barely recognize me, I'm fit
enough to keep up with my kids and I now run my own personal training business.
I love to shop for new clothes and life is great!
How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
The
exercise guides are great
- it helps to have clear pictures and instructions of various exercises.
