Kelley’s Fit Moms Success Story!

How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have 2 children. Ages 11 and 4.

How much weight did you gain during your pregnancy(s)?
I gained about 40 pounds.

What types of cheat foods did you crave during your pregnancy?
Chocolate!

How much weight did you lose after your pregnancy(s)?
I began my weight loss program two years after giving birth to my second child and wound up losing 72 pounds.

Did you exercise during your pregnancy?
I walked occasionally.

What made you decide to get back into shape after your pregnancy?
Two years after the birth of my daughter, I entered a local weight loss contest. I had a lot of weight to lose and felt overwhelmed. I knew it was time to shed some pounds to become a happier and healthier person.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
In the first 12 weeks, I lost 39 1/2 pounds. I noticed my face, arms, and the lower half of body starting to trim down.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took about 8 months with hard work and discipline.

How long have you maintained your weight?
Since August of 2008.

How many days per week do you workout now?
6-7 days.

What were the most important changes you made to lose the weight?
I counted my calories, ate wisely, ditched the diet soda, and exercised daily. Soon after beginning the weight loss contest, I told my husband that I needed a bracelet or something to keep me focused and on track. That was my “ah-ha” moment. The idea of my motivational bracelet was born. The bracelet tracked my weight loss and reminded me to make wise choices while reaching for food. The bracelet allowed me to continuously see my goals in writing which helped me to stay focused. It also helped me to see what I had accomplished and gave me the determination and motivation I needed to continue losing weight.

In my past weight loss attempts, I became discouraged by the number of pounds I wanted to lose, and the amount of time and hard work it would take. With the bracelet I was able to stay focused on a goal of losing 2 pounds (or more) at a time. With the weekly mindset of 2 pounds, my overall goal seemed more achievable.

My motivational bracelet helped me accomplish my goal and even though the contest was over, my weight loss journey wasn’t complete. I stayed focused and lost an additional 33 pounds and had reached my goal of 72 pounds. I’m now maintaining with regular exercise, healthy eating, my bracelet, and strength from God. I have now launched a website in hopes to inspire others and tell them about my motivational bracelet.

What was the biggest challenge about losing the weight?
Finding the time to exercise. I told myself, there are 24 hours in a day and I needed to make it a priority to find the time to exercise.

How has your life changed since losing the weight?
I’m happier, healthier, and much more active. I love wearing new clothes and feel better about myself. I’m no longer ashamed of my weight when I take my kids to the pool. What a relief!

What advice can you give moms about losing the baby weight?
Know that you can accomplish your weight loss goal. Never give up! You have to make the choice to change. When you get off course jump back on the right path. You need to take care of yourself and don’t wait until Monday.
