Allison’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I lost 138 pounds and went from a size 22 down to a size 6!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I was always overweight growing up although I was an athletic child. Both of my parents are overweight and they are also diabetic.

What made you decide to lose weight?
One night, while finishing up my master’s degree, I was eating ice cream and crying because my size XXL pajama pants were too tight! I decided to finally make a change when that happened.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
My diet! I completely revamped my eating habits and food choices. Exercise is something I have always enjoyed so it was very easy to add that into my overall plan.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
My fiancé was not very supportive of my efforts, so I ended up dropping him too 🙂

How long did it take you to start to see results?
I lost 20 pounds a month for the first 3 months, but I hovered around 200 pounds for what seemed like forever!

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 1 year to reach my current weight.

Did you have any issues with loose skin after losing the weight? If so, how did you deal with it?
Very much so. I had a lower body lift in December of 2015 and another cosmetic surgery in June of 2016 to address my loose skin.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
I have kept it off for 2 years. Diet is key. I’m a sugar addict and it’s easy for me to get off the proverbial “wagon”. I usually just exercise to burn the extra calories that I sometimes indulge in, but I’ve endured two knee surgeries, a back surgery and my cosmetic surgeries which prevent me from exercising. It’s all about what you put into your body.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels! My weight loss success has changed my life and I never want to go back to the miserable person I once was.

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I’m healthy and I’m happy now! I can buy clothes at any store. However, I still have the “fat girl” mentality” and I still see “fat Allison” in the mirror. Once in a while I catch myself walking through doorways sideways because I don’t think I will fit through! I don’t think that will ever go away and it’s okay since I need the reminders to keep me in check.

Do you have any advice for others who are trying to lose weight?
If I can do it, then ANYONE can do it! It’s a mindset and it takes willpower.

How did ShapeFit help you reach your weight loss goals?
ShapeFit provides motivation and proof that others can do it. Weight loss is possible for everyone who wants it bad enough.

Allison’s Weight Loss Tips!

Weight Loss Tip #1:
Idle hands are the devil’s playground. For me, this means I need to keep busy (cleaning, crafting, etc.) because if I get bored, I will turn to food.

Weight Loss Tip #2:
Surround yourself with people who support you. People will get weeded out through the process, so embrace the change.

Weight Loss Tip #3:
Believe in yourself! I totally thought this would be another failed attempt at weight loss for me, but it wasn’t. I even held on to my fat clothes for a year before I gave them away.

Weight Loss Tip #4:
Find a gym! I made some amazing friends when I joined my local gym. They supported me and helped me reach my goals.

Weight Loss Tip #5:
If you get hungry, eat an apple and drink water. If you don’t want that then you’re not really hungry.

Allison’s Weight Loss Eating Plan!

What do you normally eat for breakfast?
Coffee and a protein bar or a shake.

What do you normally eat for lunch?
2 boiled eggs, an apple and celery.

What do you normally eat for dinner?
A salad or 4 ounces of protein, 1 cup of veggies and 150 grams of a starchy food.

What do you normally eat for snacks?
Rice cake or a protein bar or shake.

What type of nutritional supplements do you take?
Protein bars and shakes, MCT oil (Medium Chain Triglycerides) and BCAAs (Branched Chain Amino Acids) to help keep my body hydrated. I like to put MCT oil in my coffee instead of creamer.

Allison’s Weight Loss Workouts!

What do you do for weight training?
I attend a local boot camp to maintain my weight. It’s 3 days a week and focuses on strength training and cardiovascular endurance. If I can’t make it, I run 2-3 miles on the treadmill and lift weights at the gym.

What do you do for cardio training?
For cardio, I like running and the elliptical machine.

  1. Allison, I’m glad you got rid of the non-supportive fiancé. Having encouraging family and friends is so important for any tough endeavor to be successful. And I love Tip #5: “If you don’t want water and the apple, you’re not really hungry. How true!
