Firuz’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I lost 293 pounds and went from a size 66 down to a 34!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
I’ve been overweight since I was a child. I became unhappy with my weight during my last semester at the University of Melbourne.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I became overweight as a child due my bad eating habits. I used to especially enjoy fried chicken and sugary sodas. I would eat a whole chicken and drink 4 to 5 liters of soda along with a bag of chocolate candy bars. I have so many friends, including girls, but my relationship with the opposite sex would end up only as a “brother sister” or “best friend” type of relationship and nothing more. I also felt really ashamed when my friends would go into clothing stores and I would just sit outside because nothing would fit me.

I started to notice that I was going to the bathroom up to 15 times per day and thought I might have diabetes. My body started becoming weaker and weaker every day. Most of my family are doctors but I was scared to tell them until one day my brother approached me in a nice way and did a medical checkup. As expected my blood sugar levels were very high and I also had high blood pressure.

I finally told myself that I needed to make a change. I decided to join a gym in Richmond, Australia. I started very slow since my knees were very weak and swollen. After walking day after day, I finally started to actually jog then run and finally I was sprinting! I also joined Jenny Craig and I managed to lose over 100 pounds in 6 months. Then I went back to my hometown in Malaysia to do plastic surgery since I had lots of saggy skin after losing weight. In January of 2015 I entered a fitness program in Malaysia and managed to lose even more weight. After that I entered another competition by Gatorade and a local new paper called NST Body Makeover Challenge did a feature on me and I continued to lose more and more!

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Cutting down on my favorite foods like fried chicken, soda and chocolate.

It took over a year to reach my current weight.

What are the most important factors for keeping the weight off?
I always try to remember that I must stay disciplined and try to always eat clean and exercise. My motto is “What you eat is what you wear”.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
I joined a support group which is a great help to stay motivated since all the members are dealing with the same weight issues as myself.
