Tina’s Weight Loss Interview!

How much did you lose?
I started at 374 pounds and I’m now 134 pounds, so I’ve lost a total of 24 pounds! I started off wearing a size 4X and I’m now down to an extra small! My waist was too big for jeans at 62 inches and now I am down to wearing 25 inch waist size jeans!

When did you become unhappy with your weight?
tina-nweight-loss-story-7I come from a family who are morbidly obese and growing up I was too. By the time I was 12 years old I weighed 250 pounds and was wearing a size 3X. It was hard for me because during my school years I was bullied and made fun of. I hated my life, until one day I chose to take matters into my own hands. In seventh grade I started to eat healthier even though my family didn’t support me. I wanted to get healthy as I was entering a new phase of my life and I did not want to be the “fat one” in high school. By the end of my school year I had dropped 70 pounds and felt amazing. But soon after starting high school I developed an eating disorder because I still hated myself. I could never get below 190 pounds and struggled with my weight loss.

When I was 19 years old I got engaged and things got even worse. I gained almost 200 pounds in less than 2 years between stopping my eating disorder and being extremely depressed. I hated myself more than ever. On December 17, 2010 I had my son Ethan and he is the little man who inspired me. I had told myself that I am now a mom I want to be a role model and show my son how to live a happier and healthier life. So I started my second journey and this time I was going to do it right. On January 7, 2011 I weighed 374 pounds but that was going to change. For a solid 10 months, I changed my diet but was having a hard time sticking with it because I was still extremely depressed. I don’t know if it was because I was going through postpartum depression or the fact that I was depressed because I was in a marriage that was really negative.

What made you decide to lose weight?
I had just had my son and I wanted to show him a better life so I had to change my own life. I did not want my son to go to school and have to deal with what I went through. I never want him to hate his life because of his weight.

What were the most important changes you made to lose weight?
There were two very important things. Eat healthy by making sure to stay on the outside aisles of the grocery store when shopping for food because that is where all of the healthy items are located (shop the outer perimeter). The second things is working out because it helps keep me positive and feeling good.

What was the most challenging thing you had to deal with during your weight loss journey?
Depression and wanting to lose weight for myself. It doesn’t matter how hard you try if you aren’t doing it for yourself because you will never get to where you want to be without believing in yourself and your goals.

How long did it take you to start to see results?
It took almost a year to see real results.

How long did it take for you to reach your current weight?
It took me 2.5 years to lose the weight.

How long have you maintained your weight loss and what are the most important factors for keeping it off?
It’s been 1 year. This is a lifestyle so you have to eat healthy and workout to maintain. Yes, you can have more cheat meals once in a while but having them every day is not allowed because you will gain the weight back.

What keeps you motivated to continue your weight loss success?
What keeps me motivated is the fact that I feel amazing. I love the person I have become! I am happier and healthier and loving every minute of it.

How has your life changed now that you have lost weight?
I am happier and live a better life. The most amazing thing is that I get to be a great mom and still be like a kid because I can finally do things in my life that I have never done before.
