Alonzo Powell
Professional Baseball Expert
Indianapolis, Indiana

Alonzo Powell’s baseball ability could be summed up in two words: professional hitter. “Zo,” as his teammates called him, was only 22 years old when he broke into the Major Leagues with the Montreal Expos in 1987. After short stints in the big leagues with Montreal and later the Seattle Mariners, Zo had the opportunity to play in Japan. As it turned out, Zo became one of the greatest hitters in Japanese baseball history. After winning the Central League batting titles in 1994, '95 and '96, Zo became the first American to win three crowns and, along with Shigeo Nagashima and the legendary Sadaharu Oh, only the third player ever to win three in a row. Alonzo retired as a player in 2001 and is currently a manager in the Cincinnati Reds organization where he is able to share his tremendous baseball knowledge with promising young players on a daily basis.
