But what I am most proud of is helping others achieve their goals. Whether it's health and fitness, motivation, nutrition and well being I always encourage people to follow their dreams. Anthony Catanzaro - Fitness Model Background

fitness-advice What's your background? How did you get started in the fitness modeling field?

fitness-advice Answer:

My mother and father were from a town in Sicily called "Sciacca" I was born in the US. I'm married and my wife's name is Tina. I also have 5 older siblings and we all live in NY. I got started in fitness modeling shortly after winning the 1997 International Mr. Fitness contest. I have been modeling for fitness, romance and clothing ever since.

fitness-advice What is the #1 thing you like best about being into fitness?

fitness-advice Answer:

The fact that others can learn from me and better their lives because of me. Most of the world is very lost when it comes to health and fitness it's so important to understand proper diet and to have balance in your life.

fitness-advice What has been your biggest accomplishment in the fitness field?

fitness-advice Answer:

Besides winning numerous fitness and natural bodybuilding titles, I would have to say my biggest accomplishment is the thousands of fans I have all over the world that to me is a special gift.

Anthony Catanzaro - Fitness Model Questions & Answers

fitness-advice Fitness Question #1 - What is the best way to get started in the fitness modeling industry? Should I just contact the photographers directly or should I use an agency?

fitness-advice Answer:

The fitness modeling industry pretty much works the same way fashion modeling works and that is through an agent. I really don't have an agent and that's because I made myself known through my contests and website. Plus modeling in books and magazines helped me gain recognition all over the world. Contacting photographers that shoot for magazines and the press are a great way to get great photos and a good chance in getting into the magazines.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #2 - Please describe a typical day for you. What is your daily routine like?

fitness-advice Answer:

My wife Tina and I usually get up at the same time and go to bed at the same time together. This I feel is very important in a relationship. I feel it helps the bond between husband and wife. I would get up and start making breakfast for both of us sometimes Tina would cook, but I like to do most of the cooking since I love to cook. I then begin my day with clients that come to my home I run a successful training business out of my home. I have morning and evening clients I train myself in the afternoon.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #3 - I don’t have that much time during the day to workout, so I really want to burn major calories in a short amount of time. What is the #1 “bang for the buck” cardio exercise I should do to burn serious calories?

fitness-advice Answer:

There's no bang for the buck exercise! Most people today are always looking for a short cut. The bottom line is that if your diet isn't right your body won't be tight!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #4 - How much weight (pounds) should I focus on losing every week? What is a safe amount to make sure I keep it off?

fitness-advice Answer:

The only way to keep unwanted pounds off is with healthy eating. Diets don't work because they deprive the body of the food that we need to nourish our cells. When we starve ourselves a funny thing happens, the body begins to store more fat! Yes you will lose weight but it's not the right weight its muscle. I'll explain, have you ever been in a tragic situation where you didn't eat for days or were sick, etc. Yes you lost weight but you didn't look good your were still flabby like a flat tire on a car.You want to lose fat not muscle!!!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #5 - What type of food or supplements should I take before and after my workouts to help me see results in gaining lean muscle and losing fat?

fitness-advice Answer:

I eat tons of chicken, fish and lean beef. I also eat oatmeal, farina, brown rice, yams and all vegetables known to man. I have a saying "If it comes from the ground eat it! If it's made from man throw it out! Supplements are ok, but there is no substitute to good whole foods...

fitness-advice Fitness Question #6 - How do you deal with cravings for junk foods, sweets and salty food? I can stay on a diet for maybe a few weeks but I eventually get really bad cravings and binge on snacks and fast foods.

fitness-advice Answer:

This is very common because like I stated earlier the body doesn't do well on diets.
If you don't eat in a balanced fashion, the body is going to crave sugar and salty foods because it is unstable, and that's because of your eating habits. Like a plane that is trying to keep its altitude, but is dropping and climbing back and forth. This is how I describe a poor diet. When you balance your diet, you are balancing your life! The best diet is a balanced diet!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #7 - I’m trying to create a healthy shopping list to stick with. What are some of the main foods I should include to maintain a lean and muscular physique?

fitness-advice Answer:

Plenty of lean chicken breast and turkey breast also lean beef for protein. For carbohydrates I choose, brown rice, oatmeal, yams etc. Stay away from canned foods and prepared foods. One day I will have my own show where I go to people's houses and teach them how to cook, eat and live HEALTHY!!!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #8 - I’m about 35 pounds over weight. I have never started an exercise program and really don’t know where to start. What tips can you give me to get started on the right track?

fitness-advice Answer:

First off, try to find a good personal trainer who can teach you correct form. I learned from trial and era but nowadays, there's help. Join a local gym and get with a good trainer.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #9 - I tend to eat out most of the time and really don’t know what healthy foods to order from the menu. What tips do you recommend for eating out at restaurants to make sure my diet will not suffer?

fitness-advice Answer:

Eating out is fun, I myself enjoy it but you can be rest assured that I am telling them how I want it prepared! Restaurants all cook with tons of butter salt, and sometimes even MSG. It's important to know what's in your food before you put it in you! Any restaurant can make you grilled chicken and broiled fish as well as any vegetable or salads that you like. Don't be afraid to ask them believe me they will make you whatever you want. Their in business to please the customer, so don't feel like well if it's not on the menu…just ask them to grill you up some fish or chicken with a nice salad or some fresh vegetables and your good to go.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #10 - What exercises do you recommend for getting a bigger, rounder and fuller butt?

fitness-advice Answer:

SQUATS! They are the king of butt exercises lunges are good too but squats are much more natural. I like to use the barbell behind the neck because this puts more stress on your legs rather then your upper body when using dumbbells.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #11 - What is the most challenging thing you deal with about consistently staying in top shape?

fitness-advice Answer:

It's pretty easy for me at this point I have been training for 20 years now, so my diet and life are given to health and fitness. But the biggest thing I battle is myself. This is a problem with many people; the hardest person to satisfy is yourself. Champions like myself push harder and harder to get to the top. Even someone like me who is already on top has to work twice as hard to stay on top. Trust me, work hard for the things you believe in, but don't neglect your love ones I wouldn't know what I would do without my wife Tina. Yes given the fact that I am perfectly able to do everything to care for myself the greatest accomplishment in life is having the person you love share your ups and downs as you go through life's journey. My father always told me before he died, he said, "When you meet that person and settle down and get married there's nothing like it! And he was right...

fitness-advice Fitness Question #12 - Please describe your normal diet. What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?

fitness-advice Answer:

Breakfast: meal one: 8 egg whites / 1 cup of oatmeal or farina/ 1 slice of whole wheat toast 1 cup of coffee

Mid-Morning Snack: there no such thing I eat every 3 hours on the dot! Six times a day! I don't know what a snack is!

Meal two: grilled chicken/ 1 yam / small salad

Meal three: whey protein shakes

Meal four: grilled chicken / 1 cup brown rice vegetables

Meal five: stir fry chicken or beef with vegetables / soy sauce

Meal six: Whey proteins shake

fitness-advice Fitness Question #13 - What type of exercises do you include in your routine to stay in shape?

Cardio Exercises:
I love the EFX Machines I don't do treadmill because that to me is artificially walking. It's not natural.

1. Eat frequently and make sure your getting enough protein and good carbs to grow.

2. Get enough rest and don't get stressed out the body is like a plant, it grows healthy under good conditions and good environments.

3. Train with weights 5 times a week do body parts like, chest and biceps, back and triceps, legs, shoulders and calves the repeat the process resting only two days a week like Wednesday and Sunday.

4. Train with a moderate weight if you don't lift heavy enough your muscles won't grow harder and better.

5. Stay focused! The biggest problem with people not sticking to the workouts and eating regimens are people or things that are getting in the way negative people have a way of discouraging you instead of helping you. I ALWAYS SAY DON'T HANG AROUND THE BUZZARDS IF YOU WANT TO FLY LIKE AN EAGLE.

fitness-advice Fitness Question #17 - What are the top 5 tips you recommend for staying motivated on a fitness plan and truly making a healthy lifestyle change:

fitness-advice Answer:

1. In the beginning its going to be hard to adjust to healthy habits because your mind is so focused on lets say rushing the kids off to school or racing to work in the morning and they are going down to the corner deli for sugar donuts or egg sandwiches filled with butter and bacon. That's going to have to stop for a while.
Learn to eat a healthy breakfast before going to work, this will not only save you money but it could possibly save you from a heart attack one day.

2. Try to get your whole family to do it with you! This will make it easier and will help not only you but your entire family.

3. Don't make excuses! Nothing good in life comes easy you have to be willing to sacrifice in order to achieve this will not only strengthen you on the outside but on the inside as well.

4. Learn all you can about healthy eating and living a healthy lifestyle. My website is filled with info from articles to eating plans I will help you all the way through.

5. Think positive and that your getting leaner and healthier by the day don't dwell on anything just hit the gas and keep moving forward!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #19 - What are the top 5 tips (specific exercises, diet advice, etc) you recommend for losing fat around the stomach and developing a toned and defined midsection?

fitness-advice Answer:

1. I love crunches, I train my abs every other day for the best results

2. I also do reverse crunches and bicycles' this is great for the lower abs

3. Another great exercise is broom stick twist I do a ton of these and owe my abs to this exercise it's the best for shrinking the waist all the way around

4. Diet, diet, diet! Like I always say "You have to eat clean to be lean!

5. Don't eat large meals or wait too long before you eat again .The stomach only holds food for no longer than three hours. After that it's gone, so your blood sugar will drop. If you don't eat again, the body will go into starvation mode and begin to store fat for survival. Pretty complex stuff huh? Basically, you need to eat small meals frequently throughout the day no longer than 3 hours a part from each other. This will speed up your metabolism and you will begin to burn fat instead of storing it!

fitness-advice Fitness Question #20 - What are the top 5 tips (specific exercises, diet advice, etc) you recommend for toning the thighs, hips and butt?
