Weight Loss Questions - Why am I Fat After
My Eating Disorder?
Weight Loss Question: I recently recovered from a severe eating disorder.
I worked very hard to get where I am right now but after gaining weight I noticed
it's a lot of fat. Why did this happen and how can I lose it? I want to be toned
and firm.
Weight Loss Answer: It's great to hear your recovering well from your
eating disorder. Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa are so terrible on
the body because with very little or no food, there is a huge atrophy of muscle
tissue and a drastic hit on the metabolism. The body loses all the calorie burning
tissue (muscle) and sets the BMR (basal metabolic rate) to an extremely low level.
Once the individual starts eating regularly again, the calories are a shock to
the body and it starts packing on body fat quickly to store energy up.
I
recommend contacting your local physician, have a full physical completed and
ask him if your healthy enough to start on a weight training program. If so, this
will be your best course of action to build back up the lean muscle mass you need
to start "stoking" your metabolism and burning adipose tissue (body
fat). You can use our exercise guides and workout routines below to help you along
