Workout Questions - Body Fat Percentage
for 6 Pack Abs
Workout Question: I want to go on a diet so that I can lose body fat so
that my abs will appear. I don't want anything really drastic because I'm not
overweight. I was wondering if you could recommend a certain diet or way to eat.
Also, what is the goal body fat percentage I should be aiming for if I really
want to unveil my six pack.
Workout Answer: A six pack of defined abdominals simply comes down to
decreasing your body fat levels to the point where the top layer of fat over your
stomach is decreased and your ab muscles show. Everyone has abs, its just that
layer of fat covering it that causes all the issues. Your diet is critical
for really losing extra body fat around the abs. Focus on getting enough protein
throughout the day by choosing lean items like chicken breast, egg whites, turkey
breast and fish. Also, make sure to eliminate all empty calories like soda, high
sugar fruit juices, candy and fast food. Try and eat several small and nutritious
meals throughout the day. By cleaning up your diet, you should see a vast improvement
in your physique.
Its also extremely important to keep a diet journal
of your nutritional intake. This way you will be able to track where all your
calories are coming from and really monitor your intake. You can download our
free diet journals here:
In terms of a great ab workout, here are the
best exercises I recommend to really work your abs:
This is one of the best exercises to tone
the lower abs with the use of a medicine ball. It's a tough one, so don't get
discouraged if you can only do a few when you're just starting out: In terms of a specific body fat level, for
males anything under 10% is pretty low and you will usually start to reveal your
ab muscles. However, don't get hung up on the percentage too much. Use the mirror
method. Simply take your shirt off and look in the mirror. This will give you
a true sense of the body fat covering your abdominals. If you can't see a 6-pack
of washboard abs, its time to tighten up your diet and get after the cardio a
little more.
