Re: exercises for posture
I used to have some pretty bad posture too and this little tick fixed me right up: Hold a 25# or 35# plate about 6-10 inches from your naval while standing. You're going to notice that you're hips are going to want to move towards the plate and your shoulders to round. By forcing the body to remain ...

Re: Do i need a weighlifting belt?
I Used to rely on those belts too, but I started doing some supplemental work with odd objects like sand bags and such and core turned so strong I didn't need one any more. I also recommend some basic Pilates stabilizing exercises like the plank, side plank and some basic bridging. Those exercises a...

Re: Effects of a diet on weight training and supplment ideas
Yea for sure you want to have a diet that keeps your energy level up. If your energy level dips, you can't work very hard and if you can't work very hard you simply can't go very far with your workouts. Also be sure you get getting enough sleep and not spending too much time sitting in front of a sc...

Re: Exercise problem
I've got the same problem Andy. WIthout a rack you're definitely going to have to rely on some other muscles to work to get the weight onto your back. To do this you're going to need to perfect some Olympic style lifting and should pressing movement. Instead I recommend you stat looking into some li...

Re: TRX Suspension Trainer?
Hold the presses! I bought a TRX a few years ago and while it was a terrific buy I highly recommend the suspension system at monkey bar gym.com. In particular you want the one that's 2 separate straps instead of just one. it makes some of the exercises much more comfortable and easier to set up. Tha...

Re: What do you guys think of what this guy has to say about TBT
I've tried split training ever which way 'til Tuesday and It's always let me down. I dunno, maybe I'm just not built for it or something but I always gain best strength, performance, size definition and any other positive when I work the entire body as one solid and strong unit. I'll probably give s...

Re: How do I do more pushups?
I used to have a stone cold pushup plateau until I started adding resistance to pushups with elastic bands or though using sand bags or weighted back packs. Now 50 is a breeze. The technique needs to change a bit when you have weight on your back (your hips need to be the same height as your shoulde...

Re: Exercising on a fasted state
Never been a big fan of the idea that you don't burn any fat until the 20 minute mark in a workout. I find it very unmotivating to think that I'm just spinning wheels for 20 minutes until fat burning furnace kicks in. Plus there's the idea of eating an entire large protein smoothie with 600 calories...

Re: Helping A Beginner
I second the notion of sit ups and crunches being mostly worthless. Maybe not worthless but certianly not worth their time. I like all of your push up variations they rock! I would combine that with equal parts pulling exercises. Things like inverted rows and chin ups are going to be a great combina...

Re: Basic Exercise Questions from a Newbie
When I lived in Japan I ran up and down the flights of stairs in apartment complex each night for workout (the local gym was very expensive). Just like the post above there are many factors to consider but as long as you're getting enough sleep and not on the all-cotton-candy diet you should be fine...

Re: Concept 2 rower
Yea Baby! I'm from Vermont and the Concept 2 factory is right in backyard (well almost). I've traveled the world over and love seeing that Concept 2 is like the Ipod of indoor rowers. I've seen many different athletes who all have their strengths and weaknesses but rowers are some of the most perfec...

Re: Chin up/Pull up bars
I would go with a dual strap system from the monkey bar gym.com. I have one and it's great at being able to wrap around all sorts of odd objects like beems, tree limbs and you can put it in a door jam with minimal contact with the door. It's really great for chin ups but you can also do many other f...

Re: Super Slow Zone ?
Wow these are news to me! I can see the apeal, but if it's going to be a nice and easy workout I would just go for a nice walk or something and save the money. Sure they might do something but a low intensity activity done twice a week is only going to be slightly effective. It's better than nothing...

Re: How many Calories should you burn to burn fat
I second that, experience has been that we tend to over estimate how many calories we actually burn and underestimate how many we actually consume. This is one of the big reasons why new clients always believe they are doing everything right but the fat's not coming off. If I plan on losing weight o...

Re: burner belt + Ab Circle = ?
Yea I once tried out some of those electronic muscle stimulators and they are pretty much junk. Some studies have said that they work, but only with normal strength training and diet. Kinda defeats the purpose don't ya think? In reality an electronic stimulator just does what your nervous system does...
