Re: Ideal Amount of Reps?
I wouldn't argue Scott , but All I would sya is the person can go for an 8-10 rep range without maxing anyway. If someone is capable of doing something like Bicep Curls for 3 sets of 10 with a 15lb weight, but they're starting out, then just do it with 5-10 lbs, because when you get to the po...

Re: Ideal Amount of Reps?
If you are just starting out weight lifting, I suggest a whole body workout 3 days a week and do your cardio five days a week. The weights will allow all of the muscles to work together. I suggest a rep range of 12-15 reps. I feel this gives beginners plenty of reps to work on form without the weig...

Ideal Amount of Reps?
Recently I got into weight lifting, dad has told me that 8-10 reps with a moderate amount of weight is ideal. I did a little research and heard that 6-8 reps is ideal for gaining strength because you're adding weight faster, and 10-12 is good for toning and getting trimmed. I'm a big kid. I don't wa...

Re: What rep rangebuild muscle size
So ideally anywhere from 8-12 reps would be perfect for gaining muscle and you don't really need to go higher (rep-wise)?

Re: Barely 16, Programmer, Would like to have a neat body.
Um, first off what is your weight? Are you on a leaner or heavier side? What kind of build is your body? If your slender and 5' 4 I'd recommend eating alot of carbs and protein and heavier weight-lifting with medium reps, idk what you have at home, but 2 dumbells with weights up to 25 lb would work ...

Re: What rep rangebuild muscle size
[\quote]i bet you got that from your coach ? that's a myth. lifting weights, any rep range, increases your metabolism through out the day(and days too), usually lifting big will have a better impact, up to certain extent though because if you were do do 1 rep maxes i don't think that would be very e...

Re: What rep rangebuild muscle size
Not a dig at you bud :), but I don't subscribe to light weights for definition stuff. Heavier weight with lower reps, will build muscle, helping to burn some more calories and in turn some more fat and also with dietary changes and not doing things to create water retention, like consuming excess S...

Re: Tips on Exercise Routine (open to flexibility)
Awesome thanks! And I was doing it all in one day, but your right, I don't want to hit a plateau and not get any results, or over-work myself, so like you said I'll split it up and add a few exercises (sqauts, deadlifts, etc) , and do you think I should add weight and lessen the reps or add reps and...

Tips on Exercise Routine (open to flexibility)
I am 16 years old and have been working out for less than a year on and off. Recently I joined a gym and got REALLY into working out, I love the results and the feeling! I'm there 2-4 times a week and so far routine looks like this (rough outline) Benching - 90lbs / 7 reps / 3 sets Shoulder press - ...
