Yes, I agree with jacal1. For beginners, swimming is best for muscle toning as most people quickly get tired before they can really work up a proper sweat. I would add that exercising on an indoor bike (whether upright or recumbent) is probably a better workout. Reason being when you are outdoors your workout is often interrupted by pedestrians or cars and/or intersections etc plus when you go down hill it is hard to keep up the same level of exertion ...

I find Cardio gets fitness up quickly. So I recommend running/jogging or even walking initially adding in swimming and cycling. I love being out in the open on warmer days but a treadmill is great when its cold or wet to keep you to your regime. Swimming is a great way to build your upper body witho...
