A good place to start is simply walk. In order to keep the weight down drink lots of water. Many people have the standard of drinking a gallon of water a day. It has many benefits including filling you up with zero calories!

While 20 seconds for the squat sounds extreme there is a benefit to the "negative" of the weight lifting exercise. The negative is the bringing the weight down after pushing it up. Many people do the negative too quickly it should be done slow.

As a new runner don't forget the importance of wearing proper running shoes! Running puts a lot of strain on the feet it is important to wear shoes designed to help withstand all the pounding. Wearing good running shoes reduces the chances of injury!
