I've used Designer Whey from the store and ON Whey Protein Gold Standard stuff, the double chocolate one.

No, I have no problems with milk or cheese. I eat a lot of both with no problems.

Are protein powders needed?

Everytime I've tried them, doesn't matter what brand, I get really bad gas/diarrhea. I give up. Protein bars don't do it to me. Does it make a difference?

I guess the simple question I have right now is how many sets and how many reps are good to start? Should 1 set of 8 reps (to fatigue) be the goal? Or 2-3 sets of 10-12 (to fatigue) be the milepost?
