Coud be indicative of one or more things, not being suffcient in your diet.

See a Doctor about it. I would think it's potentially related to Copper and or Iron intake, as they affect things like Blood quality, in relation to Red Blood Cell amounts.

Iron plays a significant part, and one of Coppers functions, is to help Iron regarding storage and utilisation.

Good shout. Missed that one. That could be indiciative of some kind of dietry failings, as pretty much all foods contain Water. He might therefore just need to have a more increased diet, and that might be enough, drinking pure water not included in that possibility.

However Mossie, as you've already got a diet thing going on in another section, it would be best to keep that disucssion there, not do it here as well :).

i should add as well as lack of water, dietry failings and perhaps the need for more shut eye, it could be hereditary. i have had dark rings for ever and nothing will cause them to go away completely, some things may make them less noticeable but the only thing that is 100% proof is a good concealer.

One of the ways to get rid of them is lying down, closing your eyes and placing used tea bags on them for 15 mins daily.I am not sure about how they work,,but one of the reasons might be the rich content of antioxidants in the tea..hopefully it works for you as it worked on me..

i had dark circles last year and it was really bad... i have a fair skin and dark circles made me look aged and tired...
apart from dark circles i also had developed melasma which is a dark patchy discoloration of the skin below eyes, on the nose and chin... i was feeling awful... :(
i visited a skin specialist and he prescribed an ointment called ultrasone . This really worked for me! i was asked to just apply very little (as much as a size of lenthil) and just lightly massage over the dark patches and leave overnight. Gradually the dark patches and the dark circles vanished. I feel so good when people compliment me saying i have glowing skin and beautiful eyes.
But I prefer you visit a skin specialist to have an exam of your dark circles and he would prescribe something that works for you. Many products over the counter are available but you will have to do the trial and error until something works for you... and that means a lot of time and money and you would get frustrated... so seek for medical attention and hope you get a solution to this problem just like i did.
Apart from that good sleep, not being stressed and relaxing your eyes are very important. I also tried a lot of home made remedies but what really works is when you are nousrished from under the skin and not just on the skin. A good instant soltuion would be ofcourse make up be it if you are a guy or a girl, you get fabulous products to conceal your dark circles. I have learnt to use them with ease now and I personally use Absolute concealer from Oriflame or Maybelline dream matte mousee (shade 4) and it works wonders.
Hope this informaton helps. Good luck! :D

Agreed.

If this happened again, go to the Doctor, take his ointment or prescribed product, and then ask what preventative measures can be used, to stop the problem happening again.

If he tried to dodge the subject or didn't know, possibly consider a new one. He might even want to keep prescribing stuff for problems, instead of giving people advice on prevention, to help boost pharmaceutical company profits, especially if they're nice enough to send him some free stationary and free Eye Ointment samples, to encourage him to act more compliently with their wishes

apart from dietary deficiencies,it could be due to excessive eye strain(watching TV/computer,even reading for long hours),less of sleep, sun exposure and venous stasis.it can run in families too.follow these steps-

1.after every 60 min close your eyes under cotton pads soaked in cold rose water/cucumber juice. you can mix cucumber juice and rose water and keep it in a freezer for 1 week
2.have a glass of carrot juice every day
3.massage your eyes gently with your ring finger every night before bed.you can use a good quality almond cream/vitamin E from a ruptured capsule for this
4.get at least 7-8 hours sleep
5.include at least 3 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet
6.stay stress free!

This site is a hub to the Mayo Clinic section about black circles under our eyes. This can be a problem for just about everybody at some point. I feel like this site can potentially be as good as going to the doctor yourself.

I have the same problem and did all through high school. I found for me it is from not getting enough good quality sleep. Take naps if you need to and have the time, drink lots of water, and maybe try taking a natural sleep aid containing melatonin. When I wasn't in school or working and could sleep when I wanted, dark circles went away and I looked much better. But now I work about 30 hours a week, workout, and am in college. So I'm always stresssed and tired :(
I have also found that BioOil helps a bit, especially with dryness. I use it to prevent wrinkles, but it helps with scars, so I thought maybe would help with dark circles too. I also have found that any product you rub under your eyes containing an herb called southernwood helps a bit. And then there is the old, weird, standby secret: PreparationH. Get the cooling gel kind and rub it under your eyes, careful not to get it into your eyes! It helps shrink puffiness and the cooling gel is soothing to the stressed area. White and green tea help too by the way. Regardless, it is likely caused from not enough sleep, or poor quality sleep, so try to address that problem first.

These days’ dark circles are common issues for every one and it is best to follow the home remedies to remove the dark circles and it is safe for skin.

Dark Circles Tips:
Take slices of potato or cucumber.

Cucumber slices have long been used to reduce puffiness and refresh the appearance of skin around the eyes, providing a fast "pick-me-up" for tired and puffy eyes. Place a slice over each eye, extending over the darkened area. Do this daily, coupled with lying down for 10-15 minutes. Keep your eyes closed.

Use a potato - Place one uncooked potato into a liquidizer and liquidize the whole potato. Scoop out and place the pureed potato on your closed eyes .Keep it there for 30 minutes, lying on your back. Wash it off with warm water. This method works well for some people.

Spreading honey on face can be beneficial to clear black circles. Mix well honey with crushed almonds and apply on face. This homemade face mask will clean up your skin drawing out impurities and also help to get rid of skin problems.

Try green tea bags to cure dark circles, it has antioxidants that can help to lighten the dark circles around the eye are. Steep the green tea bag, wait for few minutes and put in under your eye, leave it for about 10 minutes and relax and wash it off or wipe it with washcloth. You will also need to have a proper sleep, 8 hour of sleep a day is very important.
