Best Way to Get Full-body Workout at Home?
Hi, I'm not one for going to the gym as I'm a little self conscious so I want to get something setup at home. I can't afford to buy lots of big bulky equipment + I don't have the space. I was wondering which piece of equipment would be best to get that's going to do a bit of everything? I don't particularly like weights and I do want to at least boost cardio fitness. Thanks,

Hi Daz, good to talk to you.
This should work for you and it doesn't require any equipment
Squats, 2 sets, 10 reps
Lunges, 2 sets, 10 reps
Good mornings, 2 sets, 10 reps
Vertical flyes, 2 sets, 10 reps
Bent over rows, 2 sets, 10 reps
Shrugs, 2 sets, 10 reps
Planks, 30 - 45 seconds
You increase the planks by 5 seconds a week until you can do around 90 seconds
You do this 3 times a week every other day

Hey Boss Man, that sounds like a good set of exercises, not too difficult and wouldn't take too long out day. I am terrible at keeping to a regime, that's only problem. I suppose I thought maybe buying a piece of kit might be better as I could stick on tunes or watch a bit of TV and just get in a rhythm with it. I do have to try and change ways though if I'm serious about getting fit. What's your opinion on cross-trainers? I've found some relatively cheap cross trainers for sale at an Irish for sale site but are they actually good at giving you an all-round work out and what are they like on your joints compared to say, a treadmill? Thanks. Daz
Re: Best Way to Get Full-body Workout at Home?
They might be a bit better on the joints, as there's less movement of the knees and there's less impact because you're not causing a pounding / jolting impact on the knees, hips and feet from a cross trainer, so if you can afford one it might be easier.

Thanks, yes that would be better for sure, I think I'm going for a cross trainer. I can go slightly more expensive as some of the better ones have extra features that might help to mix things up a bit and keep it interesting.

Make sure to change up the routine after 3-4 weeks though. You don't want to plateau and stagnate .
Re: Best Way to Get Full-body Workout at Home?
I'd politely disagree with that. Whilst change can be beneficial for sure, the individual could continue with something that works and they like for considerable time, but then if stagnation occurs, the first thing I would always suggest from personal experience as well, would be to tackle diet, as there is no point changing the routine every 4-5 weeks looking for improvement when the diet lets you down and so often people do that, believing the routine to be the culprit for stagnation, when on many occasions it isn't.
