I'm currently in the kuwait desert for deployment.
the only real thing to do is work. so basically i run every single night close to 45 mins to an hour. and question is. i was wondering am i doing anything for losing weight and gaining muscle by running for the same amount of time every night and basically the same speed.
i know you need to change up your work out so your body doesnt get used to the same routine but is that the same with cardio?
plus im a heavy smoker. does smoking affect weight loss and muscle gain?? i smoke close to a pack and a half a day

You need to can the smoking. Not being rude just honest.
Carbon Monoxide can neutralise Oxygen molecules, so they don't work properly, by bonding to them.
The Cardio could lose effectiveness, by being too predictable for the body.
The biggest thing you need to concentrate on perhaps is diet. That's bearing in mind I understand you're on a rationed intake, or restricted food sources probably.

That guy aint on no ration food intake. They have alot of luxuries in Kuwait. LOL!! They have McDonalds Subway etc etc their. Now if he was in Baghdad or in the mountains of Afghanistan yeah he would be limited. I aint talking about BIAP either them mofos have it made to. BIAP is Baghdad International Airport for all the civilians in here. Not saying they aint dealing from being away from their loved ones and that is hard I am down with that. But a big difference from kuwait and BIAP to the other places. But to answer his question I never have smoked and I cant see how ppl do in the Arms service and stay in shape?? The 82nd runs the living dog crap out of me on a daily bases and I wouldnt make it 2 miles if I smoked like some of these ppl do. So stop smoking..LOL
