Caloric intake question

Caloric intake question
I am a 48 yr old and have recently started working out with 18yr old son. We both have different goals. I am currently 6' 227 lbs and have set a goal weight of 185 lbs. son is 6'4 and 315 lbs. He is working to develop strength for football while I would like to lose weight and become more fit. We work out together, cardio and wgt training. Obviously he is more focused on the wgt training while I tend to focus more on the cardio. current workouts are 40 min. on the treadmill walking at a 10 incline every morning and 40 minutes on the bike after work. We start lifting next week which willl probably cut our one of the cardio workouts for me. question......what should caloric intake be? and should I take the same whey protein shakes that son takes? Thanks for any insight.

you shoul;d also focus on wts as well as some cardio
you'll only need the shake if your going to do wts hard which i think you should
