I'm back but waaaaay behind! You guys are putting me to shame - pull/chin ups AND push ups, not to mention those nasty planks! :(

I bought "Starting Strength" by Mark Rippetoe - and "Maximum Strength" by Eric Cressey today on Amazon - Can't wait to get a book that will give me detailed instructions on proper form and Cressey is someone Swanso recommended and thinks well of as I recall. I really want to make sure I'm doing everything right! Thanks Lesplease!

But guess I need to start working on BW exercises! At least today I did a few planks! :)

Try pikes, inclines (you did yay!) declines, wide, narrow and diamond.
LOL! Okay, okay...I won't touch ur pushup ho title!!  Can you describe pikes, declines? And by "wide, narrow and diamond" are you talking about the placement of your hands?

Okay, after looking up images of Pike pushups, and Decline and Incline pushups I stand corrected.
What I did today was more of a Decline pushup (I called it an incline pushup) legs and feet were elevated higher than head (I used the bench on weight machine). An Incline pushup looks to be the opposite where you elevate your upper body up off the floor to be higher than your legs and feet (like using a table or kitchen counter).
Will pushups help me with improving on chin ups? Or is the only way to improve on the chin ups is to keep trying them (and of course, hopefully losing some weight  - less weight to pull up, the easier they should be!)

Of course i could never dream of even coming close to your push up title 8)
By the way....er....what is your pushup record? Not that I would ever even think of aiming for it...LOL! It just keeps us old gals feeling young  entertaining thoughts of grandeur!

BTW...thanks for all the helpful info and tips, I will be practicing pull ups with dogged determination (can't stand not being able to do something!)

Victory is mine!!!! I actually made it out the door this morning before sun up to do run. It was already horribly hot and muggy, but as soon as I stepped out on that road I felt like I found home.
First .5 mile is a steady hill climb (last nights bulgarian squats had butt muscles protesting!)
Now before I go much farther I need to share something. A running friend once told me that it really doesn't matter how fast you run, as long as you look good doing it!! well.....not to brag or anything  but i was lookin' down right fierce this morning! (in mind anyway!)
I had mp3 player jamming with some Aerosmith, Eddie Money(still singing in head "Two tickets to Paradise"), Pink, Fergie and had a good strong run.
At one point of the run i had to cross the street and run on the concrete sidewalk - the bane of running existence - I hate to run on concrete, it is so hard on the body...anyway it was either run on the sidewalk or run facing traffic with no shoulder in a blind curve, just one of the downsides to running on the street. But all in all, loved being outdoors again, even with the heat and traffic.
Last .5 coming back is a long downhill, great place to stretch out strides and let forward momentum carry me down the hill, felt like I was flying!
Didn't get to run as far i was would have liked, but happy with the first attempt at getting out the door.
Just under 3 mile run. Might throw in a 2 mile treadmill run, or fast walk this evening, along with more BW exercises.

ate half a banana w/2 Tablespoons peanut butter post run
Breakfast: Oatmeal w/maple&brown sugar and pecans
fruit smoothie w/ protein powder added

Lunch: grilled chicken breast w/grilled onions, green bell peppers / 1/2 cup mashed potatos (no addl. butter added or gravy) 1/2 cup corn (no butter added)

snack: 8 peanut butter pretzels

Dinner: 10 oz. Tilapia w/hollandaise sauce / steamed green beans w/almonds 1 tsp. butter

have a great day people! :D

OMG!! did u watch the video on Swanso's post? If I tried all of that I would be in the ER!
But I would like to try to incorporate the pistol squat, it looks amazing. It will take me awhile just to be able to balance long enough to do one rep!

unfortunately sciatic nerve is REALLY giving me trouble today. I noticed it twinging last night doing the Bulgarian squats and every since run this morning it has been hurting.

 I don't have time for an injury!!!!!

Lesplease wrote:3x15 pike
3x10 wide
3x10 narrow
3x10 diamond
one set of each flat, incline and decline
Is that like...all in one day? that's 125 pushups!! And with each set being a different position. Wow....no, I dont' think there will EVER be a doubt as to who the Pushup Ho is around here! :D I am not worthy to be in ur pushup presence! Awesome job girl!

Thanks Swanso for the link on that stretching demo for the piriformis. Never knew I had such a muscle! But when I tried that stretch, as well as a few others I found that were similar, it was like a lightening bolt zeroed right in on that sciatic pain. It targeted exactly where I was hurting, and after doing several slow stretches, the pain has lessened. I will be doing those every day 'til that pain subsides.
Wasn't able to do a workout tonight, dealing with that pain all day left me exhausted and couldn't summon up the willpower to do anything more.
Hopefully tomorrow will be better :(

Yesd, it connects to the Hip, along with the Obturator Internus and the Superior and Inferior Gamellus.

Kind of like having a Rotator Cuff for the Hips.
