Happy birthday Lu.
Miss ya. Hope you are well and doing good!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I echo the sentiment. If you come back here I hope the coming 12 months will be brilliant for you. You are such a wonderful and warm Lady and a person of great dignity and beauty. Your husband is a rich man for having you for a wife and you deserve to be so proud of your achievments in recent years and for being you.
I'm really proud of you an I want you to keep pushing on and giving the aging process the middle finger, because you are still capable of a lot.
GOOD LUCK and best wishes for the future Lu, you deserve it, because you are pretty awesome

Hey, thanks guys
Sorry I've been away - hope I didn't miss some great stuff!
Love your reference to the aging process Boss Man!!! Hahaha! However, it sure does slow you down at times.
I finally know what's wrong with me
X-rays didn't show anything so the doc sent me for an MRI on knees....and voila! Arthritus! Ack!!! I almost wish it was something else, at least something that could be fixed!! I am trying to manage aching, stiffness and pain with over the counter meds, and starting slowly to exercise again. No more intervals, or any type of running (course I never ran much, only sprints) - I need to get into an exercise program that has no impact on knees for sure....anyway, not much to report but I'm not giving up. I know that I need to face this aging process head on. I'm also still watching food intake to maintain an acceptable weight - unfortunately still not there, but slowly working at it. As soon as we close camp, get the boat out of the water and get back from Aruba, I'll have nothing to do besides take care of myself! As I know I've said before I really look forward to fall and winter - so much easier to get into a healthy routine. Hopefully I'll get back to posting here too and see all like minded and supportive friends. I've missed you

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
No need to apologsie for anything Lu
.
Try looking up supplements like Cartazyne DS, assuming it's still made as it is a cartilage supplement. Also Try looking up Hyaluronic Acid as HA is a compnent of cartilage.
As for Glucosamine, recent studies show for Osteoarthritis of the Knees it's pretty much of a non-event. Chitosan also contains Chitin, so if you have a Shellfish allergy you can't take it.
Chondroitin might work as well.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Good Morning and Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I'm cooking for 15, food, food and more food, BUT I've been looking at recipes for a healthy turkey day from the DoctorsTV show and may improvise with some healthier food items.
I've started exercising again, but am not up to posting exactly what I am doing yet. I'm truly at an all time low (or high if we are talking about weight!?) Actually not THAT bad, but clearly not going in the direction I should. I think main problem outside of some physical issues is mental well being. I went from a very productive leadership role to no real structure in life. I know I have no right to complain, life has been magical. I have a wonderful husband, children and grandchildren, good friends, lovely home - but none the less I find it hard to get going in the morning, so much time on hands I don't have time to do anything! Vicious cycle...grrrrrr.
Soooooo, I'm looking to get back into a routine, and am looking at volunteer opportunities as well as thinking about contacting Advantage Personal Training located here in Mystic to get on a regular program supplemented with own in house gym. I'm not sure of the cost yet, but I know I need external motivation. I'm alone too much and can't seem to self motivate. Aside from lack of exercise diet has been atrocious - I'm eating right at meal times but have been binging on dessert, snack stuff.....comfort food. I'm so embarrassed when I realize I've just eaten not a handful but an entire box of All Bran crackers
This week I've stopped that type of activity, working out and hope to move forward. I now need to lose at least 20 pounds, probably more like 25-30....that infamous 10 pounds that I struggled with for so long would be a GREAT place to be again.
I'm still struggling with how I could go from a person who enthusiastically worked out almost every day for almost 3 years, literally ran up the stairs to the gym to an old lady almost overnight! It seems body just fell apart! Could it be depression that is making me ache all over??? I know I have arthritis but there just doesn't seem to be a valid explanation...?
I've made an appointment with primary care physician, but couldn't get in for a full physical until the last week of January. I've had many blood tests in the last few months, all normal results......guess we'll see.
Take care all - I miss friends here and think of you often. I will be back!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Hang in there Lu. I believe in you. I know you can and will get back to where you want to be. You are human, and stuff just happens in life. Sometimes we get off track. Alot of outside events or happenings can throw us off mentally, and it is easy to fall back into bad eating choices, etc. And the cycle of eating bad, feeling guilty, eating even worse, feeling more guilty, getting depressed, feeling like it's hopeless - is VERY easy to fall into. I've done it many times. BUT!!! I know you are a very strong person, a leader, a rolemodel, a champion!
You have the strength in you to make the changes necessary to get back to where you want to be.
You have always been a motivator of others here, a cheerleader for all of us - so now it's time for us to be your motivator, your cheerleader.
I know I've said it before, but you have to know that for me personally, you were the 1st person on this site that I looked at and admired and wanted to be more like and it wasn't because you were the fittest or the strongest it was because of your positive energy and enthusiasm that literally leaped thru the computer screen and was infectious! I saw what you were doing, and it encouraged me to keep working hard and helped me believe that I could attain goals.
I hope you will start posting again, sharing your workouts, your daily struggles, your wisdom and advice. It has been missed. YOU have been missed.
Take care Lu, I am sending you much positive energy and love your way! Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving... then get back to work girl, or I'm gonna have to come to Mystic and kick your butt!!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
You guys are great! I had a couple of weeks of fairly regular workouts, nothing like before. I need to work up to a point that I'm pushing myself but still within physical limitations. I'm hoping frame of mind will change after seeing primary care physician and she undoubtedly will prescribe me some sort of anti depressant or something. So far in life I haven't needed any ongoing prescriptions and I'm not fond of taking anything, but will if the doc thinks it will help. I need to remove this cloud that seems to be hanging over head - then maybe all aches and pains will also go away! I hope so!!!!
I'm diligently working on food intake, have lost about 5 lbs - I know the holidays are not the best times, but I realize that no time is the best time - so I'll do the best that I can.
Thank you for being there for me

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Have you considered other options for depression like Inositol or St Johns Wort? Bearing in ind St Johns Wort is not reccomended for use with Anti-D's
Might be worth some consideration / research, before necessarily going on a prescription product.
If the prescription product seems like the best course of acton, then so be it, but whatever you decide and whatever happens, we are all here for you and we really do appreciate you and I hope things continue on an upward trajectory for you
