Jocelyn did you ever do that race you were going to do with your sisters?? That sounded like fun too.

No, the Dirty Girl was actually on Saturday as well, but sisters backed out of that one a long time ago. I am doing a mud run in two weeks though :) It's only 2.5 miles but it should be fun!

I have to tell you that am extremely, extemely proud of you Jocelyn.

i know it's been hard in the last 9-12 months, coping with the injuries you sustained, but you've been strong enough not to let those things completely derail your mindset.

That's why you continued to work towards that 10k and why you continued to finish that race despite issues cropping up.

I am sending you a BIG HUG because I think in your own way you are becoming an inspirational person of sorts and you're a true Lady with a true heart to match and a wonderful rolemodel for people to look up to when people are trying to ascertain what being human can be.

WELL DONE and keep on believing in yourself misses, because you ARE worth it and you deserve to be proud of yourself :).

How did the mud run go?? if you did it yet.

I remember for first marathon i got a HUGE blister on the top of toe. I ended up popping it with a needle later on. It didn't bother me while i was running though. Luckily!

No, the mud run is next weekend. I won't be paying attention to time, though. I am going to run at friend's pace because we are doing it more for fun and we want to be together to help each other with the hurdles and stuff :)

I got a new pair of running shoes. They are much different than what I normally buy. The salesperson said they should work better for foot type. I used them last night for the first time. I ran 5 miles. They felt good and I didn't get blisters, but hips are really bothering me today. I am hoping it isn't because of the new shoes!!!! I am at sister's house near Lake Michigan so I ran a new route - it was 2.5 miles out and back, and the whole run was basically small hills... So I am hoping that's why hips hurt! I am going to try a different route tonight, with fewer hills, so hopefully I will figure out if its the shoes or the hills!

I am on phone now do it's hard to type, but will catch up on everyone's journals when I get home... Hope everyone is having a great weekend :D

Thanks Bossman :)

I'm really having shoe issues. I went back to wearing old running shoes (really they aren't that old) after fiasco on Saturday with new ones. After that run ankles and shins hurt for a couple of days. I am assuming it's because I run differently in them. Now that I am using old shoes again, I am getting blisters in arches again. I think that's a pretty good indication that they just aren't the right shoes for me. So I think tomorrow night I am going to give new ones a try again. I think I just need to get used to the running style. And the pain in shins and ankles should be temporary - the blisters are unbearable, so I would go for the other pain over the blisters any day!

Tonight I went back to running the trail behind house. It was still 89 degrees when I got home, and very humid, so I thought the trail would be a good option because it is mostly shaded. I hadn't forgotten about the hill from HELL, but I had certainly told myself it wasn't as bad as I remembered it - well, I was wrong  It was worse than I remembered it  By the time I got to it the blisters were at their worst and all I wanted to do was lay down!!! I started to attempt it running, but it is soooooooooo unbelievably steep I could not do it - it is so steep that some of it is even difficult to walk  But I think walking it was faster than running it (I know that sounds crazy but it's true!).

Anyway, I decided I need to start pacing myself if I have any hope of running the whole half marathon. I am pretty stubborn so I have no intention of walking any of it. So tonight I slowed myself down thinking I would feel better. Nope. I didn't get through it any easier  I averaged a 10:20 pace. And I was more exhausted after this run than any run I can remember. It was definitely a bad run, but I did 4 miles anyway. I guess I will just chalk it up to a bad night - I am sure the heat played a part in that, I haven't done a lot of running on the really hot days.

What shoes did you get? Brand, style?
Your feet might be sliding around a little in the shoe, especially one the hill - make sure they are laced up tight enough to keep your foot from moving. Can you return them or take them back? Can't train for a 1/2 in shoes that are hurting your body. :?

No, I can't return them :( I wore them outside so now they can't be returned. So I am going to give them a try again tonight to see how it goes. If I am in pain after running then I will probably just go buy another new pair this weekend - I am hoping it doesn't come down to that but I would rather spend the money rather than be in pain!

I can't figure out how to get the picture of the shoes on this site. They are Asics Gel Lyte-33 T367N - the colors are periwinkle, white and sun (basically blue and yellow). I went with a lighter shoe this time, and that may have been a mistake.

This was years ago but i know one time i had just bought some running shoes and i kept getting blisters with them. I did run with them and they actually did let me return them because i guess they were faulty. I got a different pair and didn't have a problem. But i know most places won't do that i think i just got lucky that she took them back. I know they usually don't if you've worn them.

It will work out! Good luck. :D

Is this what you're referring to Jocelyn?

As for returning a pair of training shoes, (trainers), I managed it after wearing a pair once just for normal gym stuff, as they were too tight and I'd walked there as well, not just paraded around at home.

I basically cleaned them up, removed any stones wedged in the bottom and nobody knew the difference as the soles had no bits of scuffed rubber. I think I just said they felt a bit tight when I got them home, which didn't seem to be apparent in the shop and that was actually true, but walking around in them in the Gym, I realised they wouldn't become a little more roomy after a few days of wearing them.

Nope, mine are blue and yellow and the pattern is different.

I ran 4.5 tonight with new shoes. I didn't dare put on old ones because the pain from the blisters would have made me cry!!!! They both are still full of liquid, they haven't popped yet. new shoes barely irritated them so that was a nice surprise :D They started to hurt a bit at 3.5 but it was manageable. goal when I left house was to try to average a 10 minute mile. I am trying to pace myself so I can keep up the endurance on race day. When I got home I looked at RunKeeper app and what do you know...I averaged EXACTLY 10 min/mile

The shoes worked well for me tonight. right ankle was a little sore during the run, but it'd only because I am not running on the outsides of feet anymore now that I have these shoes, which is a good thing I think! ankles don't hurt now. calves are sore, but again, that's from running differently. I think these will work well for me. At least I hope so!!!

May have a small toe box? How much room do you have at the end?
How are you running differently? Be careful and take your time, transitioning into a new running gait or style takes time for your body to adjust.
