I'm sorry you don't like it. Is it just steady state running like on a treadmill you don't like, or is it just any running in general? It's definitely not a favorite thing for everyone. I've been running for 30 yrs. - it's a passion for me....or a sickness... sometimes I'm not sure which...
Haha! You runners are all alike! I just don't think I'm built to run - I always hate it, no matter where I am, who I'm with, or what I'm doing involving it. It never gets easier for me either. People often say that once you are consistent about it for awhile, or once you get going into the first few miles, it just feels great and you don't want to stop. I can safely say that has never ever happened to me, and I don't think it ever will! It's okay though, it's challenge, and I just have to work hard at it to be able to do it. I have other strengths, I don't NEED to run, I just resent how terrible I am at it so I keep trying ; )

I use an indoor track or I run outside. I am determined to be able to run 3 miles, or "5 km" as we say in Oh-Canada, without stopping. After that I don't care what happens!

I finally got cookbook back so here is the recipe for the Cool & Crunchy Chicken Tacos:

12 hard taco shells (i used romaine lettuce instead)
2 cups shredded romaine lettuce (obviously if you do it as a salad you will need more!)
1-2 limes, divided
1/2 cup mayo (i use light)
2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional - really doesn't make them too spicy)
3 cups diced grilled chicken breasts
1/2 small jicama
1 small mango
1/2 cup loosly packed fresh cilantro
1/4 tsp salt
1 avacado, peeled and sliced

Juice the limes to measure 3 tbsp, zest limes to measure 1 tsp. Put zest, 1 tbsp lime juice, mayo, cumin and cayenne pepper in a mixing bowl. Mix well. Spoon about 1/3 cup of the sauce into a plastic bag. Set aside. Add chicken to the remaining sauce - mix well.

Peel jicama and mango. Slice both into thin strips. Chop cilantro. Combine jicama, mango, cilantro, salt and remaining lemon juice into bowl and mix well.

Now you just top your shells (or lettuce) with the other ingredients. The sauce from the baggie can be drizzled over top.

They are so yummy! And they are eaten cold so they are really easy to take leftovers to work :D

Wow, that sounds yummy!! I may replace the lite mayo with some non fat greek yogurt & see how that would work. Thanks Jocelyn for the recipe! :D

right hip is a bit sore, probably from trying to compensate for the knee pain I was having yesterday. I'll take today off to give it a rest, but I gotta tell ya, going outside and feeling that sunshine - it's 66 degrees today - every fiber of being wants to be running!! :x

Good job on the run yesterday Lynne. Glad your knee pain left. :)

66 degrees in February?? That would be so nice! I think the high tomorrow is 14 here.

It's a great day to live in Wisconsin :D :D

I was thinking that about the Greek yogurt when I was typing the recipe - if you use it you will have to let me know how it turns out!

Hey, one quick suggestion for your weight workouts. Unless I missed it, I didn't see any direct biceps work. Maybe add three sets of 10 for biceps curls. Also some stiff legged deads or leg curls for the hams. Other than that, it looks great. I am also over 40 so it's good to see stuff that motivates me. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions Scott. Due to an arm injury (pain near the elbow joint) bicep curls are not an option right now. strength training at this time is limited to squats, lunges, pushups, planks, plyo jumps, step ups and some 5lb. DB work such as rows, military press and reverse flyes.
I'd welcome some suggestions for hamstring work that does not require any gym equipment, hammies are tight and easily stressed.

Off to a good start this Monday on food:
breakfast: protein shake, handful of Multi grain cheerios
lunch: subway 6" WW turkey (no cheese - yay me) w/spinach, lettuce, tomato, pickles, oil & vinegar / side of broccoli, red bell pepper, carrots w/ lite dip (no chips...another "yay me" - big accomplishment in the battle of what I like and what I need) :D
snack: almonds, pistachios mix
post workout: 8 oz. choc. lite soymilk, banana
snack: veggies w/lite dip (less than 2 tbsp.)
dinner: chicken breast w/mushrooms, yellow/red bell pepper, onions stir fry, or chicken breast w/salad

No pain in knee since Sat. run. May try it out later today with a 3.5 mile run.

Question: Do reg. squats and wide squats help build up strength in the knee muscle area, to help support kneecap better - as far as running goes? I have a home gym thingy that I can do weighted leg extensions on to help build strength in that area - but I seem to remember Swanso saying leg extensions were counter productive, not sure what he meant :?:

Thanks Les.

Standing, lifting one leg out at a time, or laying down w/legs raised separating them both at the same time? How 'bout using that same resistance band around the ankles standing up and pulling backward with one leg at a time for the hamstrings & glutes?

Thats the superman I learned, opposite arm & leg.You do them on your tummy Lynn on the floor or a ball AND if you put your thumb up ( like a hitch hiker ) whilst doing it, you are engaging your multifidi along your spine.

"Quote from above "
broccoli, red bell pepper, carrots w/ lite dip (no chips...another "yay me" - big accomplishment in the battle of what I like and what I need)

Perfect thinking ;)

As for direct bi cep work, ..I NEVER work mine in isolation work & they are fine :) Though I do see many men doing it & think, god that must become a drag ? Do compound, save yourself some piddling about, scott.

okay. I tried them and could def. feel it pulling - felt good. hubby happened to walk through the room whilst I am on the floor - one leg in the air, one arm in the air, complete with hitchhiker thumb raised....well...you can imagine the conversation that ensued..... :P ending with him saying "we need a date."
