Last nights dinner: 1 chicken breast with stir fry (cooked in a little olive oil and the chicken drippings) mushrooms, yellow & red bell pepper, onions.
Last nights workout (1 hr. after dinner): 20 minutes of cardio/strength training - Bob Harper video. Felt much easier this time than when I first started, I guess that's a good thing, right? :D I was able to keep up, do the squats lower and not be as out of breath as before, still sweated buckets.
I got hungry last night around 10:00 p.m., starving actually - but didn't want to eat anything so close to bedtime, and couldn't think of anything I could have that would be "safe".
So, what to do if I get hungry that late? I ended up staying up until after 11:00 cleaning kitchen and sweeping - I had tons of energy - but went to bed hungry. :?

Protein shake! why didn't I think of that! :x
I was thinking maybe some popcorn? but the only kind I really like is the extra butter kind  so I guess that is not an option. I'd rather do without than eat the plain kind.
Celery sticks & pb?
last night brain was tired and I couldn't think of anything - blank.

Todays meals:
Breakfast: protein shake / 1/2 cup dry multi grain cheerios
snack: almonds, pistachios
Lunch: leftover chicken & veggies
snack: raw veggies w/lite dip
post workout: lite choc. soymilk, small banana
Dinner: oven baked tilapia, salad
if hungry: celery stick w/all nat. pb

Todays workout:

4.5 miles - treadmill w/pick ups from 6.0 to 7.0 mph throughout
finished @ 47:42, cooldown walking to 50:00 minutes

Felt good. Wore leg/knee brace just to give some support to the knee cap. Had a twinge about 1 mile into it, but it was just that. Took it easy, didn't do sprints or a really fast pace, as I didn't want to push the knee too much. Happy with the result, and feel more confident about the next road run going smoothly.
Training schedule only called for 3.5 miles today - but i was feeling too good to stop. :D

2 x 15 bicycle crunches (really need to up core work to improve running)

snack #2 didn't happen today, so I went into this workout 6 hrs. from the last meal.
Now I'm off to have lite choc. soymilk and banana. Chow! :D

One thing about where I live is you can never know from one day to the next what the weather will be.
Tonight it is 26 degrees with a 20 mph north wind which makes it feel like 16 -
But by the weekend it is supposed to be back up in the 60's! go figure.

Today wasn't so good on food. Bad planning on part.
breakfast: oatmeal w/raisins
no snack
lunch: chili frito pie (from a local restaurant - didn't bring lunch :( )
things kinda went down hill from there..
no afternoon snack...felt sleepy all afternoon
worked til 5 p.m. (normally off at 3)
hungry when I got home (hubby was home & had bought a rotisserie chicken) - ate a bit of chicken breast from that & a wing
snacked on some chips - then stopped myself and got out the veggie tray and ate carrots and broccoli - trying to fight the chip craving - gahhhh!
Then hubby sets out some tostitos and picante sauce.....omg, I ate some of those, felt guilty - walked away, literally left the room and didn't come back til later. Then when I did, I ate half a banana instead w/pb
Dinner: sirloin steak w/grilled yellow peppers, onions, mushrooms & green beans

So...really failed today with the salty chip cravings.
I attribute it to having the frito pie at lunch - that's when it began.
At least I ended the day with a decent meal.

I've lost 4.5 lbs. since I started tracking food again, staying away from chips, processed food, etc. - hope I didn't blow it all today.
So tomorrow will make sure to plan meals better. Already have lunched packed in the fridge - rotisserie chicken breast, stir fry - veggies w/dip

I hear you, I was wondering whether or not to have flax bread with peanut butter and honey today, because it tends to set off some chain reaction feeling, not sure what thats all about exactly.Though, at least you have lunch ready, so lesson learned, congrats on the loss.Yes I did have piece of cheat toast for the week also :)

I'm with you on the tostitos. I love them. I don't eat potato chips very often but i do like tostitos. One of favorite snacks is salsa with a little light sour cream and tostitos.

Congrats on the weight loss! :) your doing well, keep going Lynne!

Glad to hear you say that Allison. Even tostitos say they are made with whole grains?? I don't know how true that is. But they do say that on the bag.

amatlack wrote:I don't think chips and salsa is that bad of a snack. You just have to do portion control. I look up how many chips are in one serving, put that many in a bowl (usually like 12-14 for 100-120 calories), and then eat as much salsa as I want (since it's just veggies...I get the kind without added sugar and crap). What's so wrong with that?
I agree that portion control is key. problem right now is that ANY kind of chip triggers an intense cravings for more, usually worse kinds. For me, for right now, I just need to stay away completely and stick to the veggie tray. Especially if I'm hungry - I will devour a bag of chips in no time - it's pretty frightening. :?
I'm really going into this training season with a clear goal that I really want to achieve. I have a 1/2 marathon in 2 months followed by a triathlon in 3 months. I don't just want to "do" them, barely sqeeking by. I want to be at a weight where I can feel good and really give it best and have no excuses to fall back on, like weight or lack of training. There is no reason if I work hard that I can't lose 20+ lbs. and be in the best racing shape of 40's - if I just stick to the plan, train smartly, consistently and BACK AWAY from the chips, pies, cakes, cookies, white breads, donuts, fries, etc. - it's not easy, but I have to give it absolute full attention for the next 2 to 3 months.
I try to remember that everytime I walk past the bag of peanut butter/choc. chip cookies in the breakroom at work.....just walk away Lynne.....walk away.

Yes, another good idea. I like the counting them out idea too, makes me feel like I have some sort of control over it. :D

Todays meals:

breakfast: oatmeal w/touch of sugar - no raisins this time.
no snack
lunch: chicken breast w/whole wheat wrap & pico gallo, guac., picante sauce - no cheese, but had a dab of sour cream
post workout: choc. soy milk (lite) small banana
dinner: 2 tilapia fillets marinated in sun dried tomato vinaigrette baked with sliced mushrooms
snack: celery stick w/pb (if hungry)

Todays workout:

4.5 miles - treadmill
Kept a steadily increasing pace over a timed 4.0 mile run (.5 cooldown jog)
4.0 miles @ 38:39
Started out @ 5.0 mph, steadily upped the speed to finish out at 6.5 mph steady pace
Not a blazing speed by any means, but it kept me working hard and at the same time did not stress knee too much.
Felt good. :P

no worries..think aloud any time. I can't imagine getting that strict with calories, cycling and such, unless I was in a competition or something - I'm pretty proud just to be keeping up with daily food intake, writing it down, etc. :D

Down another .5 lb. this morning!!

It would seem like most people cycle like that normally unless they eat exactly the same thing every day??

Congrats on the .5 weight loss Lynne!

I've been on a tilapia fillet kick here lately. Love, love them, baked in the oven with some fresh sliced mushrooms and a little shr. parm cheese on top.
Hubby says I'm eating too much fish (3 times a week) and I'm gonna get mercury poisoning - . I told him tilapia is not a fish high in mercury and it isn't gonna hurt me.
I'm like "I finally found something that is working for me - don't rain on parade!" at least it's keeping me from eating pb&j's every night!
