You do look good Allison. From the looks of it you seem to really enjoy it and be good at it.

Another awesome 1 hr. Zumba class this morning!
Plus 20 minutes elliptical.
Love it.
I can feel those fat cells shrinking.

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
Last chance workout this morning before 5K on Sunday!
Ran a 3 miles at race pace to see where I was at time wise.
It wasn't as fast as I had hoped (although i had a couple of interruptions that slowed me down) but the good news is that I'm running the same distance 2 to 3 minutes faster than i was last year at this time - that's a positive thing. Hopefully race day, with all the energy and running hormones swirling in the air, I'll be a bit faster.
Going to start logging food again...accountability is a powerful thing.
breakfast: protein shake & boiled egg
Lunch: grilled chicken salad with tomato, onion, boiled egg slices, broccoli & lf dressing (I'm going to a pizza buffet, so eating a salad is a big deal for me - *patting myself on the back)
snack: apple w/2 tbsp. nat. PB
Dinner: (this is usually cheat meal on Friday) but I dont want to cheat too badly with race being on Sunday so....not sure what I'll be having - any suggestions?

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
thanks! It's gonna be fun. It's about a 2 hr. drive there & I am riding with several other ladies from running club - so it's kind of a "girls day out"
we just happen to be running instead of shopping! A couple of friends are running the full marathon and the half, so me and the others who are running the 5K will get to be the cheerleaders, cheering them on to the finish.
Last nights cheat meal was homemade tacos - so I didn't do too badly. I used LF shr. cheddar cheese and no sour cream, instead I made homemade guacamole using just an avocado and onion. I drained the hamb. mt., - so all in all it was pretty healthy (for a cheat meal
)
today I am trying to focus on healthy meals, balanced between carbs and protein.
I made grits for breakfast and added a boiled egg and 4 thin slices of deli turkey, 1 tsp. butter, dash of salt and pepper. Glass of iced green tea, sweetened with 2 packets of "Stevia in the raw".
Lunch is probably going to be something out since I'm going to the hair salon to get some low lights put in hair and am meeting a friend for lunch. Maybe a grilled chicken breast with some steamed veggies.
Dinner I am planning on having a baked chicken breast with oven baked potato slices or a baked potato, or some whole grain brown pasta.
I have to get up at 3 a.m.
be on the road by 4:30, so it's gonna be a long day, but I'm looking forward to it!!!
I splurged and bought a new tech running shirt that matches running shorts and some kick butt sunglasses...Hey I may not be fast, but I can dang sure look good while I'm running down the road!
(gotta look good in front of running peeps)

Lowlights are the opposite of highlights. The worst moments of something uneventful I believe
At least I think there is an opposite to highlights.
Out of interest why did you choose the 5k and perhaps not something longer? I only say that as you've done longer races before.
Whatever happens GOOD LUCK. I believe in you and I know you can do well.

i already have enough natural "highlights" or should I say "whitelights"Boss Man wrote:Lowlights are the opposite of highlights

for the next few months I am running the shorter races, concentrating on speed. I want to beat last year's 5K times. Starting January I will begin to train for 1/2 and possibly a full marathon for the spring - plus some spring triathlons too.Boss Man wrote: Out of interest why did you choose the 5k and perhaps not something longer? Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
It was pretty tough. Lots of hills. Ran good.
Finished 6 in age group and 87th out of 298 women.
I actually ran farther than the 5K race course. Due to an error of the racing production people and/or race officials, they had the course mismarked for about 1/2 the race and at least 50% of the runners (including me) ran about a half mile or more longer. So, time was useless, no way to know what I would have actually finished with, and no way to know if anyone else in age group ran the correct route or the longer route. So, even tho' I was still 6th in age group and 87 overall, I may have actually had a chance to be in the top 3 and win a medal or finish higher overall. But, still felt I did pretty well, all things considered.

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
thanks guys!
No, it won't be last...I already have 3 other races planned before the end of the year, and then in Jan. I start triathlon training, and also for a half marathon that's in April.
One nice thing that happened, I forgot to mention, was there were several of us crowded around the race results that were taped on the wall, and one of friends was trying to lean in and see her results, she put her hands on back/shoulders to peak over shoulder and said "omg! I feel your muscles girl! You are solid as a rock!" - it felt good to hear that, makes the hard work all the more worth it.
I may not be built like some of these tiny, lean, lanky running gazelles (no offense to any tiny, lean, lanky running gazelles out there
...but if they ever got in trouble, I bet I could pick up their little butts and carry them to the finish line if I had to.

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
You potentially could do that, but secretly I don't think you'd want to, or you could say, I wasn't doing this for charity, but seeing as you can't continue and need charity, give me a financial donation and I'll carry you to the line

Re: Work In Progress - FitoverForty
I'll keep that in mind Bossman.
yesterday's workout:
Morning: 4 mile early a.m. run
Evening: Did a new class at the gym called R.I.P.P.E.D. (Resistance, Interval, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, Diet) I think it's similar to p90x, and was totally awesome! It combines cardio with resistance training, intervals, with lots of fast moving changeups. Pushups, mountain climbers, jumps, planks, kicks, punches, etc. I was slinging sweat all over the place - felt sorry for the girl in front of me.
really loved it.
today's workout:
evening: hill sprints and 2 mile easy run.
breakfast: protein shake, 1 boiled egg
lunch: albacore tuna, 2% lf cottage cheese, apple
post workout: protein shake
dinner: grilled chicken breast, steamed broccoli
snack if hungry: glass of choc. soymilk
