Yes. I am blessed with upper body/back/arm strength. I can do 20-25 without rest. :)

Today's workout:
HIIT intervals - Elliptical
9 minute warmup
8 sets of 1 min. FAST/1 min. Slow
5 min. cooldown
Felt really good to be slinging some sweat this morning! And it didn't affect sore hamstring :D

Ran a 5 mile race today - had a great time, didn't try to run too hard, just coming off of injury and being sick a week. But I loved just running and being "in the crowd".

this was last race before the big "50"!!!

tuesday was the 1st day back on speedwork....re-pulled hamstring on the second lap. :x
out for another week or two.

Gonna have to redirect workouts - more strength training and non-running cardio until this hamstring heals completely. ugh.

thanks, me too. :( It's funny, I ran 5 miles at a moderate pace and had no pain, no problems - but then I did speedwork, ran a little faster than "race pace" and boom, it pulls......SO FRUSTRATING!!!! :x :x
not the way I wanted to celebrate the big "50". But I am trying to look at the bright side. I may be turning 50, and have an injured hamstring - but at least I can walk, jog, lift weights, and swim. I am blessed to be fit and strong, and healthy - so things aren't so bad really.

i think with speed work you are more likely to pull a muscle aren't you? I've always felt that way and never really did speed work for that reason and also i don't like it. :) I've never pulled muslces when i ran too and i think that is on of the reasons that and i was in twenties and young. I have more issues now but i think that is do to weight.

I know speed work does help you improve though.

You are definitely blessed so your right look at the good side. Maybe time to train for a triathlon? Since you can do the other two sports while you heal?

hmmmmm....a triathlon.....or maybe a aquabike (swim and bike only) sounds fun! :D
I hate open water swims tho'....there's one in August in Bastrop TX that has a 200 meter pool swim, then a 16 mile bike - PERFECT!!
Thanks Becky for showing me there's always another way, another option, another pathway to get fitness !

Excited for you!! Glad i could help. :) triathlons or even aqua bike races sound like so much fun! I've been following the blogs of a 2 people that are triathletes. IT seems so interesting and fun! i would love to do it someday! I can live through you Lynne!

I didn't even know they had aqua bikes races actually. That does sound fun. :) and nice to train for especially when injured.

Why don't you like open water swims?

you don't have to live thru me girl...I know you can do it too! If I can do it, and I am by no means anyone special - just someone that refuses to accept limitations - you can also. One day at a time - one workout at a time - one healthy meal at a time, it can be done. :D :D
musculArgirl2 wrote: Why don't you like open water swims?
I can't see thru the water, like I can in the pool. I can't touch bottom like I can in most of the length of the pool. I panic when the water and splashing, thrashing, arms and legs hitting me from other athletes hits me - afraid I can't breath. At least in a pool it is a more controlled environment, we have a lanes to swim in, and I can see and touch bottom if I need to.
Basically I'm just a wimp.
