I don't belong to a gym at the moment...had to give it up due to the economy and a tight budget :( I am hoping maybe starting next year I can join back, I really miss it.
I have a home gym Weider Pro 4100 (weighted pulley system) It is pretty nice and gets the job done, and I have a really nice Reebok rx 4000 treadmill (bought it from a friend who practically gave it away :D ) so I am lucky.

Hey, speaking of rabbit ears, ours had aluminum foil crunched on to the ends to make them longer. I guess it was supposed to get better reception that way. I remember you would spend 10 minutes adjusting them and then back away really slow....with your hands frozen up in the air, like that would keep it from getting fuzzy!

No workout this evening. I spent 2 hours shopping for shoes for son. Went to 3 different stores, walking up and down aisles, climbing up shelves to reach his size shoe box (naturally there is not a salesperson in sight! I think they were all hiding over on the next aisle peeking through the shoe boxes, watching to see if I would fall...probably taking bets!). Well, I take that back...after I had climbed up, balancing on one leg, giving everyone a birds eye view of backside, I got the shoes, and laced them up...low and behold this sales girl appears from around the corner (she probably lost the coin toss!) and casually asks me if I need help. At this point, I'm squatting on the floor helping son (okay...forcing him...) to try on the shoes, I turn and look at her and try to give her best "exasperated customer" look and say "No thanks, I got it!"
On second thought maybe that was a workout in itself!! :D :D

Anyway, I'm planning on a hard fast HIIT treadmill workout in the a.m., upper body weights, & floor exercises.

Sounds to me like your home gym is perfect! You certainly are dedicated work your butt off! :) I have some equipment at home but I just am not motivated to use it - I need the gym, need to go somewhere else besides home - too much to do (distractions) at home!

With people by the thousands getting laid off daily you would think one's who are lucky enough to still be working might have some enthusiasm and be extra helpful when customers come in - apparently not! But I suppose if it weren't for these people you wouldn't have gotten your workout

Reminds me of a time when (maybe 9 year old, can't remember for sure) wanted a pair of VAN's (really ugly sneakers in opinion). The salesman was SO GOOD - treated son beautifully - animatedly trying to find the ones he wanted (he didnt have Vans) Finally the salesman (after trying dozens of sneaks) went to a discount table and held up a pair that were priced at $5! son said he loved them - I asked "Are you sure????" When we got into the car he burst out crying saying he hated these sneaks....bottom line is the saleman was so nice son didn't want to hurt his feelings by saying he didn't like any of his sneaks.....of course I assured him he could get new ones. I'm sure that salesman is successful today (a real people person) and son is still a gem!

Have a great day!

Oh ok, cool, I guess the system is like the apex pulley system at the gym ? You can do everything on those provided youv'e the bar attachments :) I'm fortunate, to receive 50% discount for membership, for disability & I frequent the local community center, comes out to approximately 160.00 a year ;) Yes some stores definately lack sales people, though I'm sure they take the commission, lol after it was you who climbed up to retrieve your own shoes, kids r both about 6 feet, is me who asks them to reach up & retrieve things for me.Have a great workout in the a.m :)

Lu, I love your story about your boy choosing the shoes he didn't like, just to keep from letting down the salesperson! What a compassionate and caring young man...hmmm...wonder where he learned that!
Yes, while I am fortunate to have the home equipment, it is VERY hard to motivate myself to use it. When I first started using them there were usually at least 5 interruptions from either husband or son, with some problem that just could not possibly wait 30 minutes! Sometimes it seemed no one needed me UNTIL I stepped on that treadmill. Then I had a family meeting and told them that I really needed that workout time, with no interruptions, and I would be a much happier camper, which in turn would make their life alot better too, because as we all know...if Momma's not happy...then NO ONE will be happy!! :D So I said, UNLESS you are cut open, bleeding (really bad, like stitches bleeding) or your arm is hanging by a thread, or maybe if the house is burning down, then do not interrupt me while I'm working out! Life has been much better since then :D

Okay, now down to business:

Did HIIT on the treadmill this morning. Tried it Swanso's way (it's in his post "Read before posting to save me and you alot of time" in the Diet & Nutrition forum (fascinating and informative reading).

5 min. warmup at 5.0 mph
1 min @ 8.0 mph / 2 min. @ 6.0 mph (repeat 4 times)
1 min @ 8.0 mph / 2 min. @ 4.0 mph / 2 min. 8.0 mph
Cool down 6 minutes @ 3.0 mph
Didn't have time to do the 20 minutes of steady slower running, hopefully next time. I liked it, and felt like I could do several more sets, just didn't get an earlier enough start.

Now, I'm really not trying to get depressed, but I did not lose any weight this week, or inches. I am exactly the same as last Friday. It is very crushing to work so hard and not see any change. So, if I break it down I think it has to do with diet, since I am exercising alot and often. I am not eating badly, or over eating, if anything I am not eating enough according to the daily calories I am supposed to be getting. I usually range from 1500 to 1800 calories a day.
I guess I could start working out twice a day, with running in the a.m. and weights in the p.m. or vice versa....I don't know what to do....any body got any suggestions?

Hi Lynn - do you have a Diet Journal going? It does sounds like it must be your food. I'd love to try to help you there. I'll go check that Forum but if it's not there can you post what you eat daily?

Don't get discouraged - as Swanso says , it comes off in clumps...not steady weekly weight loss. I haven't lost any significant amount of weight in quite sometime, but body is definitely changing. Yours will too - and probably has - are your clothes fitting differently? You are doing GREAT!!!

I don't have a Diet Journal in the Forums. I have been using Diet Tracker on home page.
usual daily food intake goes something like this:

Breakfast:
Homemade Frozen Fruit Smoothie w/protein powder (1 scoop)
Almond Granola Crunch Bar

mid morning snack:
mixed nuts (almonds, pistachios, pecans)

Lunch:
Subway Roast Beef on wheat bread / bag of Sun Chips
or
Grilled Pork Chop or Chicken with 1/2 cup potatoes (mashed, no butter) green beans or corn

mid afternoon snack (alot of time I skip this)
2% mozz. cheese stick, or more nuts, or maybe some apple slices w/peanut butter

get home from work around 5:30 and do workout

Dinner:
Baked/Broiled Zucchini, or Squash / Baked Tilapia Fish (parmesan crusted Tilapia, comes frozen in a bag) / whole grain Brown Rice or Whole Wheat Pasta.
Sometimes I will just have the whole wheat pasta w/fresh tomatos thrown in and some shrimp, kinda stirfry with a bit of butter or EVO.
3 nights this week I just had a PB&J sandwich on whole wheat w/brown rice chips and mixed nuts for dinner.

No late night snacks in the last month

Yes, clothes are definitely becoming looser, in fact I wore a size 10 pants the other day!! woo hoo! I've been in size 12 for the last year! So I know I am making progress, just frustrated with myself for getting into that kind of shape in the first place.

Hey Nokie! I'm gettin' closer to those single digit pants everyday!! :D :D :D

Arrggg! I'm busted!! You got me Iron. I have been slacking on filling it out, but I have noticed that I basically eat the same thing everyday. It's gets kind of boring. I tend to stick to the same things...either because I am too lazy or tired or broke to buy new things or I just don't have that much imagination or energy to think up new stuff!
I found the fastest way to use the Diet Tracker is just to write down all the Nutritional info on the food you eat that day (read all the labels, adjust for serving sizes), then enter each food or meal as a "custom food" with all the parts of the meal in one place(example: Fish w/pasta & sauce). That way you don't spend 45 minutes hunting down every food you ate and every topping or sauce for its info!
I'll try to do better next week. Today is supposed to be cheat day...also date night with the hubby  ...so I will be going out to eat...no sense logging THAT food in, I'm sure I will exceed calorie goal for the day! :D :D
Get back on track tomorrow :D

Seems a few of us read swanso's HIIT, though it has no steady running in it ? From what I read is 5 min warmup, followed by 1 min fast as hell, then 1min reg, then 5 mins, slow to let the fat release into ur blood (yuck) then, a 20 min, spike, reg speed technique ? I hit a plateau on losing weight, it happens & yes sometimes ur body changes shape & is no weight loss.Keep up your determination, I want a full report on those bulgarian splits, haha :D

Not much to report today...
Ate out in a restaurant last night. First time in a long time. We went to a great Tex-Mex Mexican Restaurant. I was doing pretty good 'til they brought out the chips and sauce ( weakness!)
Since it is a "cheat" day I allowed myself to have whatever I wanted within reason. Not going to beat myself up over it. It was a special occasion (date night with husband :D ).

didn't workout today...rest day

BTW...Iron...that diet tracker works both ways ya know...
ya better watch out... :D ......just kiddin' with ya!

Yeah, the accountability thing is good, and the diet tracker is a great tool for that. Makes me think twice about that candy bar I'm craving!
Yes, we enjoyed ourselves alot! Every now and then I think it is important to have a night where it is just the two of you, get dressed up, go out and have a date. A night where I'm not "mom" and he's not "dad" we get to be that girl and that guy who fell for each other all those years ago (we will celebrate 13 years of marriage soon :D ) No talking about children, or bills, or work...just enjoying each other. Good stuff!!!! :D
But enough of that gushy stuff!! Tomorrow it is back to the workout and the diet so I can continue working towards reaching the goal I set for myself when I started this journey! :D

Lynne - you have such a great outlook on life - date night is something I routinely recommend to Newlyweds but more importantly couples who start a family - it's soooo important - Good for you!! (I'm a J.P)

I'm going to check out your daily and get back to you with some suggestions. At first blush it looks like you eat more "breads" than I do - most dinners for me do not include rice or potato (sweet or otherwise) but doubles in free veggies ( I love spinach)

I'm on 3rd Black Berry in a week so have had problems signing in and I'm on a much needed vacation in Westerly RI (only 15 minutes from home but enough!) Talk to you soon!
