I read that bit and was like uhh, boyfriend? It took me a while to realise that meant best friend. I had some very strange thoughts going on :P.

I was thinking it would be neat to see bikini pics from 3 years ago to the ones now, really a phenominal change. You have tons to be proud of, the will power to change, your knowledge, planning out your path and following it........very impressive, and a gr8 model to follow.

Oh, btw you must have pics of ur b(boy) friend in his bikini competitions...

68 days to go!

Post by cassiegose »

Only 68 days now... less than 10 weeks!!!

I'll be honest... I'm kind of starting to panic a little bit. I feel like I've made great progress, however I also wonder if I'm making fast enough progress to be ready by October 3rd. I weighed in this morning... down another pound. I feel really like im retaining a lot of water today so i might even be down a bit more than a pound. I'm planning on weighing in again tomorrow to see.

Today I'm tightening up on diet even more. I was eating a small amount (1 teaspoon) of low fat mayo with eggs, as well as occasional fat free salad dressing with (again a very small amount) with salads. Effective today I'll be taking those things out. Instead of low fat mayo i'm switching to mustard and instead of salad dressing i'll use vinegar. Yum. I'm also cutting back on precious oatmeal and will stick to sweet potatoes as primary source of carb. Lastly, I'm going to start measuring food instead of estimating. I believe estimates of serving size is pretty accurate, however at this point I don't think estimating is going to cut it any longer.

Workouts are going well. Today was a struggle as I had no energy (pretty wiped out from a long weekend). I've been doing a great deal of interval and plyometric exercises lately. Those really kick butt so I know they must be good!

Thank you all for your encouragment and continued inspiration! :)

You may find the Sweet Potato, might also be an issue. You might be wise if needs be, to switch to something like Broccoli, as it's high Carb, low GI, so the fact you'd be eating low GI, might help, plus large stalks are 10g Carbs, so easier to portion out.

The main thing is not to panic. As discussed before, it's easy to get like that the first time, as you've nothing to work with / compare to, that seems logical, if needs be, you could consider increasing Cardio, or possibly have a shock day at some point, where you eat around 2,000 calories, for one day, then get back on the system again.

The main thing for now is give it time. You've got more than 2 months to get the way you need to be. Even if it came to the crunch, and you were 1-2% over the desired fat level, you could still cinch some good points, for things like small cosmetic changes to face and hair, smooth tan, good presentation, posing, routine and muscle size.

There's others who could have a weak routine, or some poses that fall through, or be over studded on the suit, etc etc, so it won't mean you get a poor finish.

At this point, it could quite easily be the case that you nail the fat% anyway, even if you chose to do a water load, about 36 hours pre-contest or something like that, so you've got options, so you shouldn't worry too much right now.

You're doing great, and the changes are coming slowly and gradually, not too quickly, so it's about being patient, and sticking to the programme you're on, and if needs be, like you have done, make minor, subtle changes.

I am sure this will work out for you, and as I said, it's normal to question things, especially the first time, but as long as it doesn't make you do erratic things every week or two, that's the main thing.

I know you're going to be fine on the day. You DESERVE this chance, and the only person you're going to let down, if you do crazy stuff now, and get a poorer finish is yourself.

To me you're already a winner, for coming so far physically and educationally, since your teenage years and you DO have the potential to be a great, great athlete, as long as you stick to your guns, be strong, and don't let that solid, positive mindset be spoiled.

That might have been you in the past, but if it was, it certainly isn't now.

GOOD LUCK and keep on pushing yeah :). There's plenty of people including me, who are proud of you and I know 100%, you WON'T let yourself down, or walk on stage looking second best for a second.

Bossman,

So you think I should take out the sweet potato and have brocolli instead? trainer (an IFBB pro) told me to do the sweet potato and I've read numerous other articles suggested sweet potatoes as a primary source of carb. trainer told me that in her final 4 weeks before the competition she takes out all carbs except for sweet potatoes and veggies (asparagus, broccoli, and green beans) she said this helps immensly to "tighten" things up. This is why I was going to do less oatmeal and more sweet potatoes now... just to make sure i'm ready by comp time.

So diet right now looks like this... maybe you could make some suggestions bossman. :)

Meal 1 (pre workout): 1/2 cup applesauce, small protein shake made with 1/2 scoop protein and water (this meal is eaten at 4:30 in the morning, I get to the gym around 5. I've found that this combination doesn't bother stomach and is quick to eat).

Meal 2: Postworkout: protein shake (1 scoop protein, water) 2/3 cups oatmeal with 1/2 cup eggwhites

Meal 3: 1/3 cup sweet potato, tilapia, 1/2 small green zuchinni

Cardio 30-45 minutes on the elliptical

Meal 4: 1/2 cup sweet potato, tilapia, 1/2 small green zuchinni

Meal 5: 1 whole egg, 5 eggwhites, green beans

Meal 6: lean protein (either tuna, steak, chicken, eggs) and veggies (usually zucchini, green beans, asparagus, or broccoli).

This is the meal plan for Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday is higher carb day, where I basically eat that, but add in 2/3 cup oatmeal to meal 5. Sometimes I swap the tilapia out for chicken. The tilapia is much easier to prepare than the chicken. Thursday and Friday pretty much look like the above. Saturday is another higher carb day and is a "cheat" day. I usually don't cheat too much, but do have some fruit and usually a large bowl of oatmeal... among other healthier things. Sunday is vary low carb day where I eat protein and veggies. This usually ends up being a lower calorie day as well.

For the past 3 weeks prior, I was doing quinoa in place of the sweet potato, but traded it for sweet potato today per trainers previous advice.

I'm also taking about 10 fish oil pills a day to make up for lack of fat. Usually with meals 3 and 5 and before bed.

Any ideas? I'm alllll ears! :)

I suggested the Broccoli, as I've seen others, who have done well at competing, doing it too.

Two reason why I thought the Sweet Potato might have been suggested was.

1. The lack of Carbs, could be partially counteracted Blood sugar wise, by having a high GI Carb.

2. Sweet potato, might be less watery than Broccoli.

I suggested the Broccoli, because it's high Carb, and easy to portion out.

If the Sweet Potato is working for you, then stick to it, but you can consider Broccoli, and Green Beans is another one I've seen too.

only concern woud be the amount of Fish, because of the Mercury. It might not be something you want to consider, replacing a meal with Fish in it, for more Chicken, but another possible option would be a small portion of Beef, as opposed to Steak.

Plus the Zinc is good for GH and growth Hormone increases, and Chicken is very Zincy??

You might also want to consider a Vit C supplement, either a 500mg or 1g one, first thing in the morning. If you have mild issues off it, go for buffered, but just incase your diet may be lowering immune system slightly, this might help, and you could keep it up afterwards anyway, rather than just for the prep period.

Oh Cassie Dear...that meal plan looks oh so familiar. I promise you it will all be worth it. The meals for me were the hardest part as I LOVE TO EAT...just good foods. Oh how I missed fresh summer fruit and corn on the cob! Sorry...don't mean to make you drool girl. You will be fine. You are leaning out like you should...remember slow and steady or your body will get pissed off at you and REBEL! You will be amazed the last couple weeks what your body will evolve into. I didn't believe trainer when he said it cause I sure did not feel like I was leaning out. But those last couple days, you'll cut out all salt, even having to drink distilled H2O (and eventually none at all the last 24 hours) and partaking in salt free chicken. I know your not going to believe this, but I dropped 5 pounds in 2 days.. The morning of competition....I was ready! You will be too...have faith, your gonna do great!
