i think you should still get the mri so you can find out what the actual problem is...you could be making it worse and not even know it

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Okay, it's been a week....just checking in with you Lu. How is everything? I really, really miss you and your fabulous posts. It's NOT the same without you around here.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Hi guys! I just got back from NYC - had a wonderful time! We saw South Pacific which was fabulous! I worked out at the hotel gym - treadmill and weights - and TONS of walking! You might remember last year we went to the city and show around the same time. There were 35 of us this year.
I'm still working out, but have lost a little steam - workout buddy hasn't been feeling well, plus now his back is bothering him - I was sick for awhile, and shoulder once again is hurting. Looks like Swanso was right (again!) and I should get an MRI and find out what is actually wrong....it's really putting a damper on ability to remain focused and excited. ALSO, I'm a summer person - I think I'm depressed - I need a shot of sunshine!!
I'm still committed to eating clean and exercise - I may not be here everyday, but I'm with you in spirit and think of you all often! Lesplease - I've been looking at airfare to Florida - I'm hoping to get away for a few days - if I do I'll let you know because I'd still love to catch up with you!

Today - Back to work!!!
WU - Hula Hoop - started doing Jumping Jacks but legs are bothering me...muscle or tendon behind left knee
Chin Ups/Pull ups - 3 x 15 (using assist on FT) twice with hands facing in - once with hands facing me.
Posterior Delts - 5 lb DB's 3 x 20
Incline Flyes- 5 lb DB's 3 x 10
Sumo Squats 3 x 10 BW
Single Arm Rows - 20 lb.s 3 x 15
Low Hurdle Step overs - Front, Back and Side
Still taking it easy on weights due to rotator cuff...
That's it for today - going to go shopping, plan on settling in for the storm!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I'm sitting here experiencing a beautiful snow storm! Ahhh...what a winter wonderland! So glad I don't need to go out in it! And I have absolutely NO excuse for not going to the gym - so, as soon as I take a batch of home made protein bars out of the oven I will be heading upstairs - Cardio today - Treadmill...probably steady no incline due to knees.....I just love this kind of day! BTW - these protein bars are very addictive (love 'em!)....this is probably 10th batch! Thank you Brentyboy! I put no sugar or sugar substitute in mine - the chocolate bits make it sweet enough - and I love putting dried pineapple, cherries and blueberries in them. Sometimes I think workout buddy (Will) comes only for the protein bars! LOL
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I was told no more than 12 minutes on the Hula Hoop - do you do it longer than that? I love the Hula Hoop, but I guess I didn't think it was as good as the treadmill or Elliptical. The elliptical kicks butt - that's what I should be doing ~!Lesplease wrote:Also, don't knock the hoop! Hula hoopin' is probably favorite form of cardio!
Had hair done today, color and cut - haven't worked out yet - will be weights, I'll report in later. Just called doctors office to discuss getting an MRI so we can discuss the results at next appointment in the 26th if possible. I really need to know what's up with shoulder - it's worse now than before

Les - this is the basics on the protein bars. It's 3 cups of oatmeal, 1/2 c dry milk. 1 c of apple sauce (I use Blueberry) 1 1/2 c of Protein Powder (I use 1 c straw, 1/2 c chocolate) 1/2 c egg whites, 1 cup of natural peanut butter - 1 c trail mix with dried fruit 1/4 c chocolate morsels, 1/4 c coconut, 1/4 c sunflower seeds, about 1/4 c of whatever - actually from the trail mix on I alternate with stuff - dried pineapple, cherries, blueberries, nuts (almonds, sunflower seeds etc. - mix it all together, spread in a oblong or rectangle pan and bake at 300 for about 30 minutes. Makes about 15 bars, but I cut them in half and get twice that amount - they are sooooo filling! The large ones contain about 20g of protein.....

Aww... to be young...sighLesplease wrote:I've never had hair colored

Sorry Lu! Didn't mean to jump in your thread here to discuss hair issues!!

Wouldn't the hula hoop be hard on the knees, with the repetitive circular motions? just wondering, I know you have been having knee issues.
Re: Lu's Workout Journal
I will never color mine, mainly cos I am a hairstylist & know how evil it is on your hair & when I was in twenties, coloring those womens hair, I told myself then * I am not going to color hair when it goes grey * its life...les what u mean more than one hoola hoop ?..You have some circus training or what ?
Lu hope things will be better for u soon.

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Never in wildest dreams did I think mentioning getting hair colored would elicit so many different responses -what fun! Just for the record, it was only recently that I started using permanent dye, and what I get is reverse highlights, which leaves a good portion natural color (mostly gray) and the highlights are dark. hairdresser has a tendency to put in a strategically placed blond streak or two, but mostly in the summer time. I have had a gray streak in bangs since I was 16 years old, so it's always been important to leave that area natural.... hairdresser agrees
Most people throughout life thought I had it done that way! Ha!! While I am not a hairdresser, but I'm sure even Bonnie will agree, the products they use today are much better for your hair than years ago...and I totally agree that it's not good for your hair, more back then than now. BUT, as much as I really don't mind the gray - when I look at myself in the rear view mirror of car and "see" Dad - I figure it's time to get some color -
:):)
I never worked out today - I'll make up for it tomorrow by doing some Cardio and weights.
ciao!

L M A O !! That is SO funny! Yeah, while you were gone today, we have had a considerable debate on hair color - to do, or not to do.ldematto wrote:when I look at myself in the rear view mirror of car and "see" Dad - I figure it's time to get some color -:):)

Everytime I say I won't do it again, I"m like you I look in the mirror and see those white hairs peeking out and just say "noooooooo.....not yet!!!" LOL!
I may have said this before...but you know it's time to get a color done when people start staring at the top of your head instead of looking you in the eye...or worse..they will alternate back and forth..up, down, up, down..trying not (but failing miserably) to look. It's actually pretty funny.

Today
I was a bum today! Ate all the right things...but laid on the couch and read a book! Tonight we met our kids and grandkids at the pizza house (had some pizza!) and 2 light beers. It would've been easy to NOT workout, but I heard Lynne calling name and after settling down a bit went upstairs. Thanks Lynne!
Cardio - 30 minutes on the Treadmill at 3.7 mph no incline - did 3 intervals at 6 mph.
Pull Ups - 4 x 10 with assist on the Functional Trainer ( new best friend!)
Posterior Delts - 3 x 20 Only 5 lb DB's
Incline Flyes - 3 x 10 5lb DB's
Lunges 2 x 12 5 lb DB's
A whole hellava lot better than nothing!

Re: Lu's Workout Journal
Once again I heard Lynne telling me to get off butt...so, here goes:
Treadmill - 34 minutes, 3 intervals at 6.3 mph, 5 minutes really slow then 20 minutes at 3.7 mph incline 3 (tried incline again)
Deads - 75 lbs. 3 x 10
Bosu Ball Balancing and Sumo Squats . 3 x 10 (Balancing wasn't reps, but kind of dancing to the tunes on ball)
Shoulder Press 5 lb DB's 3 x 15 Paired with
Pull Ups 3 x 15 (with 12 Assist)
Posterior Delts 3 x 20 5lb DB's paired with
Incline Flyes - 3 x 10 5 lb DB's
Finished with Single Arm Rows 3 x 15 25 lb. DB x 2
It felt good - thought about doing some floor exercises, but need to do some errands today. Maybe later.
Have a great day!

Today - Cardio Day
Treadmill 30 minutes...program with 4.5 mph as MAX speed - fluctuating between 3 and 4.5, no incline.
Low Hurdle Step Overs - 3 sets of 10, front, 10 side and 10 back - no break between F/S/B.
In between sets above, Bosu Ball balancing to Toni Braxton songs. I find it's really fun to kind of dance on the ball.
X 3
Hip Thrusts - 3 x 10
Leg Raises 3 x 10 - holding both legs about 5-6 inches from floor, spread them (scissors?) and back, then back to start.
Circle Quadrupled Glute Kick Backs - 3 x 10 x 2
Swiss Ball - planks
1 Prone Plank
Felt good! Unfortunately I need to work off dinner last night - I've done soooo good with food and then bam!!! One night out - double stuffed lobsters that I couldn't refuse!
